Astell & Kern KANN - DAP with Massive Storage & Battery
I did look around the site for firmware, and it seems that Kann support seems to be absent (https://astellnkern.com/eng/content/support/download/list.asp?search=1&word=&cg=Firmware&goods=SC10630 shows no hits nor can I find any copies on archive.org for that page). I'd risk a 1.13 upgrade in...- iamthewalrus

Astell & Kern KANN - DAP with Massive Storage & Battery
Just in case... I've tried to read through/search through this and other threads elsewhere and I cannot for the life of me find an answer to my issue. I have an original Kann (not Kann Cube or the like), and it was working pretty well for quite a while, but now it has developed an odd situation...- iamthewalrus

The Etymotics HF5 Thread
Sounds like you have a HF3 - it's the same thing, but with the inline volume controller + microphone and control button. Personally, I'd suggest leaving them alone since I find those controls/mic to be useful and recabling a pain.- iamthewalrus

The Etymotics HF5 Thread
Quote: I should clarify slightly and say that to my ears the sound profile is the same - though from all I can tell, the only effective differences lie in to what tolerance the drivers are matched and what resistance there is in the respective cables (the latter of which of course you can...- iamthewalrus

Universal IEM for best midrange(vocals) w/removable cables budget $600
Quote: Agreed on the ER4 recommendation, though only if the new ones indeed have replaceable cables still. If so, you can get an adapter from ebay and plug in any Shure or Westone cable you want to. Quote: Again, if the ER4 still offer replaceable cables, you can likely get...- iamthewalrus

The Etymotics HF5 Thread
Quote: Just as a note, I own both a modified ER4 (originally P) and a HF3 - or what remains of the HF3. The HF-series' cables may not be the best constructed devices out there - mine developed the breaking at the seams after about 2 years, and my attempts to DIY repair the cables have not...- iamthewalrus
