Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE
Quote: Unfortunately, at this time, plans for such a unit have been canned (they have prototypes with pure AES i/o in-house, I've been waiting with finger on the trigger). However, even that unit still required the analog out for test signals and kept the analog inputs, no discussion I...- heycarnut

Smyth SVS Realiser - PRIR Exchange Thread
Quote: Great speakers - planning on getting a set of the replacement Neumann model (pretty different, yet the same) when they are available. You'll want to probably use less traps than ideal (unless you listen at pretty low levels) though, the original O300 limiter kicks in pretty...- heycarnut

Lynx Hilo - new offering from Pro Audio company.
Quote: Yeah, it really is a neatly done unit, and being FPGA they can add features, even pretty complex ones, via software/firmware upgrades. Had the Antelope Eclipse not been on the horizon (also very well executed), I probably would have kept the unit I played with.- heycarnut

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE
Just as an FYI - if it's HDMI protocol (as opposed to using HDMI connectors for some non-standard use), there must be video. It is usually just "black" signal in setups like your example, but it is there. Smyth confusingly says something like "...video if present..." in the manual, but I'm sure...- heycarnut

Lynx Hilo - new offering from Pro Audio company.
Quote: No, that depends on the topology of the output, e.g., if it uses cross-coupled (often called "servo"), the output delivers exactly the same voltage regardless of running balanced or unbalanced, and the unused pin is referenced to ground (it usually must be when operated unbalanced)...- heycarnut

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE
It is the best thing since sliced bread for gaming. As far as DAC quality, you'll be pleased. You can keep things completely in the digital domain if you desire via using the HDMI for input (and a converter if needed, e.g., I have an AES to HDMI unit, since sadly Smyth canned plans to produce a...- heycarnut

What are the best speakers in the world?
Quote: The ones with the woofers on the slanted panels to the side of the main (front) panel? If so, seriously nice, still holds up to current SOTA stuff well. I regret getting rid of mine. Rob- heycarnut

Quote: And a beautiful example of Daniel's perfection exemplified it is. Then again, some that it is priced beyond their means might believe its reliability is less than the DAC1 and performance is too inconsistent under differing temperatures...- heycarnut

Stax 009 for Gaming?
Yes. I use them (w/727), along with orthos & dynamics. Of course the resolution is probably the finest out there, and is well beyond what is needed for any game I've played. If you're a headbanger, you need to use caution as some of the LF effects in games are at high levels, and I...- heycarnut

The Stax thread (New)
"The speed of chemical reactions doubles when the temperature is increased by 10 degrees celsius (Arrhenius Law), so the lifetime doubles with every 10 degrees less working temperature (thereby, just for example, 105°C caps will live four times longer than 85°C caps (at 85°C))." ...- heycarnut
