    Best portable DAC for iPhone?

Cool. Just curious if anyone has any info about what Apple uses for DA in the newest phones?

    Best portable DAC for iPhone?

How about the DAC for the newest iPhones? I have a 14pro and loaded up a bunch of 24 bit content to play with VLC. Wasn't impressed. Listening with hi-end Etymotic on the move and Sennheiser HD800 at home. Reco for lightning dongles with decent DA chips? And/or lightning to USBC adapters?

    Schiit Gungnir DAC

Mind if you tell me where you sold your Bifrost? I have an Uber I need to sell to help defray the cost of my Gungnir upgrade. Available immediately.

Holy Schiit! Add DSD to any DAC for $149. Meet Loki...

Quite honestly, I can't really tell.  But it's an Apples vs Oranges comparison.  The Loki is single-ended, the Gungnir is balanced.  There is more going on than DSD vs PCM.  I can tell you that Loki does not sound *worse* than the Gungnir, so (for me) it's worth having on convenience alone.

Holy Schiit! Add DSD to any DAC for $149. Meet Loki...

Conversion: IMHO - no.  I have both a Loki and a Gungnir.  They each have their own USB and I can switch back and forth by changing the config in Audirvana.  I like the sound and dynamics of the Gungnir better than the Loki - usually.  Since the Loki is powered from the USB (5v), the voltage...

    DSD, to support or not

Wow.  I thought that comment would maybe get me banished ...  ;-)   It doesn't need to be DSD (but I'll grab all I can).  PCM FLAC is just fine thank you, and it doesn't even need to be 192Khz.   Have a listen to "LORDE - Pure Heroin" (PCM-FLAC 24/48khz) - just amazing sound.  No reason...

Mac OS X Music Players - alternatives to iTunes

The 96kHz/cheap plastic fiber is a chicken/egg problem. Because of the fiber spec, the OS limits the rate to 96k, even if you used glass that would go far faster. Totally artificial limitation. "Nobody will need more than 640KB of memory."

Mac OS X Music Players - alternatives to iTunes

The only reason that I use USB with A+ is that the MAC OS will max @ 96kHz. Have you found different? Also, with my Mac Pro clone I can't seem to get the DAC to even see either toslink or SPDIF - even though wired direct to the motherboard. It's damned annoying that the toslink spec maxes out...

Mac OS X Music Players - alternatives to iTunes

Back in the Mavericks beta days I sent Damien into on App Napp. He thanked me, but informed me that it was already dealt with. Like you I noticed that there was no Info option. This is because there is no choice, as App Nap prevention is always on. So, if it's not working, then it's a bug. For...

Holy Schiit! Add DSD to any DAC for $149. Meet Loki...

Surf out here:  https://code.google.com/p/sacd-ripper/   As stated, only certain firmware work, specifically older or equal to 3.55, and apparently units with newer firmware can NOT be downgraded.   The PS3 libraries then need to be "tweaked"  after which you install the "game" from the link...

Hi Jason,   On my setup the "pop" is 100% coincidental (and is always present) with the lock light coming on no matter what SW I use.  Given all that going on, that the HW has control, and can manipulate the lock light, just please add a net to the circuit which by default is mute, + of...

Holy Schiit! Add DSD to any DAC for $149. Meet Loki...

Haven't had a chance to do too much listening - so far there are only 2 "issues"   1) gain is lower than typical SE, and WAY lower than balanced  - because of USB power - not a problem per se, just be aware 2) firmware needs a tweak to suppress output on start play so we don't hear pops N clicks

Holy Schiit! Add DSD to any DAC for $149. Meet Loki...

Just received my second Loki - the first one seemed to have the wrong firmware flashed into it.   Rather than use the front switch I just plugged it into my MacPro along side the Gungnir.  I now see two DACs in the setup:   The Gungnir as: "Speaker-Schiit USB Audio Device" The Loki as...

    Schiit Gungnir DAC

I just used a different USB port on the MAC to avoid using the switch and all the cables. I've powered it up and checked that Audirvana sees it - yes. I've a request for Schiit Engineering. Please have the DACs "name" themselves to the OS by their product name instead of the Company Name. OS X...

    Schiit Gungnir DAC

Quote:   I DO NOT disagree with judmarc's caveat.  Yes, noise and other interference CAN make a difference.  I'm sure there is some threshold where suddenly - and it WILL be suddenly - the cable causes errors.  Or a super-cheap or damaged cable is simply not up to snuff.  Whether the...
