++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

Quote: Yeah, I went through a similar dilemma over comfort, and was torn between the DT880's at one point.  My post is a couple pages back, but basically, I was concerned that they would pinch my ears, or the pads would hit at just the wrong point and itch, or they'd be too...

Quote:   I haven't heard the DT880's, but I suspect your laptop probably won't do a great job of driving 250 ohm cans.   My experience with a wide range of headphones is pretty limited, but you might want to consider Denon AH-D2000's.  I bought mine about a week ago and so far, they've...

Quote: Just wanted to say thanks for all the recs and info, Armaegis.  After reading up a bit on the Phiaton, I wound up scoring a pair of D2000's for under $200.  General consensus seems to be that the Phiaton's are pretty similar, but more congested sounding, so I figured it was worth...

Quote:   Thanks, I'll look into those.  I'd kinda overlooked Phiaton when I was searching, so this will give me plenty to read up on between calls at work :)   I noticed in your profile that you owned DT880's, and used to own K702's, both of which I've looked at pretty heavily.  My...

    The niche electronic music thread - synthpop / EBM / dark-electro / gothic / rythmic-noise / experimental / chiptune / etc.

Quote: rofl, I can't help wondering how someone like that would react to a band like Hocico or Suicide Commando.  I'm not much of a VNV fan, but they always struck me as going for more of an uplifting, epic sound.  Describing them as depressing is like describing Covenant as angry.

I've owned EH350's for a couple of years now, and while they're very good in many respects, I find myself getting the upgrade bug.  They're quite nice through most of the midrange, tending toward a smooth, very slightly warm sound, but I'm finding the bass is a bit too lean and soft, and while...

Time for a little Ant-Zen flavored rhythmic noise.  Gwarlek's userpic is a great reminder :)

Same Old Schiit? Balanced Research and Valhalla Amp Giveaway

Do you have balanced headphones? If so, which ones? No   If not, are you looking at balanced headphones or a balanced amp in the future? Not currently.  The way the past couple years have been, I'm just not sure it's within my budget right now.   For balanced headphone output...

Crank the volume and turn off the lights. On a gear-related note, this kind of music is actually really useful for testing headphones and speakers.  Lots of clanging metal, distortion, and deep bass tones that really help provide a sense of what's going on in the frequency extremes.  On...

Wonderfully filthy power electronics from Thorofon...   ...and a bit of classic dark ambient from Archon Satani before bed.

A bit of a follow-up to my earlier post.  Haus Arafna runs a fantastic boutique label called Galakthorrö, which takes something of a quality over quantity approach.  Only a couple releases per year, if even that, but Maska Genetik is at the top of the pile.

Awesome to see a thread like this pop-up here.  I'm fairly inexperienced when it comes to hi-fi, and it's only recently that I'm in any sort of position to change that, but I could post on this topic for a very long time and never run out of things to post. I still listen to a bit of goth...
