Covert Affairs Jazz Festival
Anyone watch this show Covert Affairs? I think it comes on USA. Anyway, there's an episode where the Auggie character goes oversees to a jazz music festival, and in it he sets up all these mics to record it and also plugs straight into the soundboard, because apparently he's real tight with one...- ezzieyguywuf

Where to find replacement screw for D5000?
So the threads that the bolt screws into are ok? I remember trying to do this about 2 years ago and being unsuccesfull. I did end up finding a solution though (my problem was different: the threads were stripped). Lemme find a link... edit:link . Now that I think about it, I may have 3...- ezzieyguywuf

VS1053 Simple 'MP3' Player?
The project you're referring is today known as the lyre project (I think I referenced it earlier in this thread). My understanding is that its a dead project and didn't really do all that much, though they did have a functional player at the end of the day. As for the hardware decoder thing, I...- ezzieyguywuf

VS1053 Simple 'MP3' Player?
Quote: I agree that the iriver does pretty much everything I want, but last I checked its the old school irivers that do so. I.e. the out-of-production ones that are super hard to come by at a decent price. This vs1053 costs like, $5 I think. add to that a board (how much do those cost...- ezzieyguywuf

VS1053 Simple 'MP3' Player?
nullstring: I completely agree, and I too am of the mindset of "why hasn't this been done yet". There was some efforts over in the Rockbox community which developed itself into the Lyre project. I'm not so sure how applicable that project would be to this though, as (I'm pretty sure) they ended...- ezzieyguywuf

VS1053 Simple 'MP3' Player?
Sweet. I definitely think I'm going to pursue this then. I think it would be nice to have a real simple but high-fidelity portable audio player. Plus, if I could put Rockbox on that ARM board you linked, it'd be awesome. One step at a time though :-D I wonder if the arduino wouldn't be easier to...- ezzieyguywuf

VS1053 Simple 'MP3' Player?
nullstring: something like that could be infinitely better, as I'm pretty sure Rockbox would run on it. FallenAngel: I have perused the datasheet, but I'm by no means an expert at processing all the data in there. I keep going back to the block-diagram on their main site though: you see...- ezzieyguywuf

VS1053 Simple 'MP3' Player?
glt: I can't seem to find that board on their website, could you post a link? FallenAngel: if the vs1053's DAC is outputing a digital signal, then indeed what the heck is it doing? Am I misinterpretting something here?- ezzieyguywuf

VS1053 Simple 'MP3' Player?
So I got it stuck in my head yesterday that I want to make my own DAP, probably based around an arduino. I thought it'd be pretty easy, as I could offload the DAC and amp to, say, a bantam and cmoy. My biggest problem is that the arduino doesn't have enough juice to decode ogg or flac (from what...- ezzieyguywuf

beta22 question
Well, maybe I'll just make two separate beta22's then. I don't really own any speakers worth amping right now. I do however own some really nice Denon D2000's which don't require all that much gain (I can't turn the dial all the way up on my compass as its way too loud). I do wish to invest is...- ezzieyguywuf

beta22 question
Is it possible to build one that could be used as both a headphone amp and, in the future, as a speaker amp? On the website it says it can be built for either of these tasks, but I'd prefer an all-in-one solution. Maybe a gain switch or something? Or is it just not that simple?- ezzieyguywuf
