Hm, well I am using a toslink with proper adapter, but no sound from the DAC. System pref says digital output, but still nothing from the DAC. Anything else to try or is this something at the DAC end?

Is it required (even possible?) to change your preferences when using an external DAC? Just want to make sure that the internal DAC is bypassed so the external DAC can do its business, unless it makes no difference....? 2007 Macbook, MSB Link DAC II via optical or 3.5 mini.  

The peanut looking one is the only one with a clamp. I've been using the other without a clamp since that post with no problems.
