I don't see any reason why you couldn't. Source to HA-1 via optical, DAC in HA-1, HA-1 to amp via analog output. Keep in mind that optical will not pass DSD to HA-1.

Today I have my LCD-X's connected to the balance output of an AK240 using the stock Audeze balanced cable and an ALO 2.5mm TRRS to XLR adapter.  Plenty of volume and I'm pleased with the sound quality.  Big soundstage!  I agree with Barry S.

Finer resolution near the mid point of the potentiometer is a desirable design goal.  In addition, the construction of logarithmic pots usually requires overlapping 2 resistive elements with the overlap at the mid point.   I checked my OPPO and it is consistent with you comments.

You have several browsing methods available on the AK240 including the ability to browse by folder.
