Audio Novice, £100-£200 headphones? K701/MS1i/SRH840/ATH-M50? Advice also needed.

That would be extremely difficult, especially seeing as the going rate for Grado SR80is is £107.95 ($171.31), and the M50s are proving difficult to track down, especially as I've read iHeadphones aren't authorised dealers.

Well, after awhile I decided that I probably just buy some PX100s for travelling, so these would be just for home use. I thought I'd check this thread one more time as I was very close to going ahead and buying M50s, until I checked the thread and also saw that I could get Grado SR60i or 80is...

So now I have to decide between:   AKG k701 Sennheiser HD600 Shure SRH840  Sennheiser HD595  Audio Technica ATH-M50  Alessandro MS1i   Which ones are the best for rock unamped playing ALACs from a Macbook Pro?   (I apologise profusely for both the sneaky 'bump' and...

After looking around more, if I were to buy some cans to play music from my MacBook Pro, would I need a DAC?

After more searching (and budget stretching) it seems as though I should go for some Senn PX100s (~£23) for travelling and then maybe Alessandro MS1s / Shure SRH840s / Audio Technica ATH-M50s for home use?

I'm still open to suggestions, but at the moment I'm looking into the Alessandro MS1s as they seem to be easier to obtain than the SR60is, and cheaper (even if they are caught by customs), could someone please link me to the Alessandro site, because the one I found looks decidedly dodgy.   ...

Quote:   I see. I haven't done extensive searching on the Grados just yet but (89.99+3.99=) £93.98 from iHeadphones seems pretty reasonable, especially considering the (mostly) positive attitude towards them and (IMO) the much better styling than any other headphones around my budget.  ...

Here's a question: if the sound leakage from the SR-60is wasn't a problem, are they good, because the more I think of them the more I want them :P?   Also, if I were to (hypothetically) increase my budget, which are better the Senn 25-IIs or Shure SRH840s?

Now, I'm moving away from the idea of expensive (to me) headphones for travelling, and towards the idea of having a pair of home headphones, and then look into portables at a later date.

Quote:   Pricy, but definitely an option, although they are slightly lacking on aesthetics :P   That thread is superb and contains some headphones I'd previously been looking into such as the Sennheiser HD238s. I noticed some Grado SR60is on that thread, does anyone know any reason...

EDIT: After advice and research I've decided to get PX100s for travelling and the best cans I can afford for home use. I've compiled a short list, but from there I do not know where to go... Also I'm still unsure whether I'd need a DAC.     AKG k701 - £200 (I really like the look of...
