Thank you for your help, much appreciated. I'm going to try out the ZMF VC, they sound promising. Regarding their build / construction quality, I am looking at them now and it looks like each of the cups is attached to the headband by a metal antenna (similar to the design of Grado headphones)...

If I stretched my budget to $3000 what would you recommend? Will the ZMF Verite Closed have more slam than the Noire and a wider soundstage than the Focal series without having to change the pads? I don't want to get into modifying headphones, just looking for the best "from factory" solution.

Comfort is very high priority, probably #2 on the list. For weight, I'd like to stay under 500g. That's why I loved physically wearing the DCA Aeon 2 Noires because they were super comfortable to wear, but they simple didn't have any punch/slam (as compared to the Focal line) so they won't cut...

I also tried the DCA Aeon 2 Noire and loved the width and openness of its soundstage but it had no punch/slam. If punch/slam is still the priority, but an open / wide soundstage is a close second...
