I suspect that you're right regarding expensive boutique headphone amps but I hope that you're wrong, having just invested in one. 

Nice shot purrin.  I also prefer the PS1000 to the SR-507. Whenever I attempt to describe the SR-507, the word antiseptic comes to mind. For all of its technical capabilities, I just didn't find it engaging.

I remember you from another thread. So you went for the PS1000 in the end. Congratulations and I suggest that you err on the side of caution with burn-in, as I don't think that Grado recommends it for the PS1000.

Nice impressions Sonic Defender. I really like the HF2. It also has the most prominent bass that I've heard from a Grado, but achieves this at the expense of some definition compared to other Grado's that I've heard. This causes me to question whether an OTL amp like the Valhalla would be an...

Finally. Thanks Gu Sensei. I am confident of failing a blind DAC test. Maybe I should stop faffing about and just spring for something like this. It looks good and would probably sound just like any other DAC to me.

Like so many others, I unwittingly stumbled into Head-Fi in search of a pair of portable on-ear phones. Several earphones and headphones later, I think that I could be happy with one pair of each. I'm just not sure which pairs to choose.

No, not at all. As Priest said earlier in this thread: "Also parted with the HD800, although I acknowledge its greatness." I can understand why the HD800 is so highly regarded. It's a remarkable headphone. I've felt that the LCD-2 would be a great complement to the HD800. I'd be happy to own...
