What is the ***BEST*** pair of headphones available today?
I suspect that you're right regarding expensive boutique headphone amps but I hope that you're wrong, having just invested in one.- bumblingbooby

does anyone still love their ps1000?
Nice shot purrin. I also prefer the PS1000 to the SR-507. Whenever I attempt to describe the SR-507, the word antiseptic comes to mind. For all of its technical capabilities, I just didn't find it engaging.- bumblingbooby

PS1000 Impressions Thread
I remember you from another thread. So you went for the PS1000 in the end. Congratulations and I suggest that you err on the side of caution with burn-in, as I don't think that Grado recommends it for the PS1000.- bumblingbooby

Schiit DACs (Bifrost and Gungnir down, one to go)? The information and anticipation thread.
Quote: Then you've softened your stance to put it mildly. I recall seeing and also quoting your posts (possibly earlier in this very thread) in which, you were disparaging of USB implementation in DACs. My interest in the type of transformer being used in the Bifrost, is because...- bumblingbooby

Thanks MrScary but isn't anti-USB implementation your area of expertise?- bumblingbooby

Schiit Valhalla with Grado HF2 impression
Nice impressions Sonic Defender. I really like the HF2. It also has the most prominent bass that I've heard from a Grado, but achieves this at the expense of some definition compared to other Grado's that I've heard. This causes me to question whether an OTL amp like the Valhalla would be an...- bumblingbooby

ONKYO DAC 1000 32/192 USB asynchronous
Finally. Thanks Gu Sensei. I am confident of failing a blind DAC test. Maybe I should stop faffing about and just spring for something like this. It looks good and would probably sound just like any other DAC to me.- bumblingbooby

Is anyone happy with just one headphone?
Like so many others, I unwittingly stumbled into Head-Fi in search of a pair of portable on-ear phones. Several earphones and headphones later, I think that I could be happy with one pair of each. I'm just not sure which pairs to choose.- bumblingbooby

does anyone still love their ps1000?
No, not at all. As Priest said earlier in this thread: "Also parted with the HD800, although I acknowledge its greatness." I can understand why the HD800 is so highly regarded. It's a remarkable headphone. I've felt that the LCD-2 would be a great complement to the HD800. I'd be happy to own...- bumblingbooby

does anyone still love their ps1000?
pcf, I see that you own both the Stax SR-007 and SR-507. I envy you. Sadly, I've not heard the former but I have spent time with the latter. Would we be straying too far off topic if I asked how you find the SR-507 compares to the PS1000, and whether you have a preference? We could compare notes...- bumblingbooby

does anyone still love their ps1000?
Too late pcf! My opinion might not be as trustworthy as some Alghazanth, but I had to trust my own ears in the end because they're the only ones I've got. They preferred the PS1000 to the HD800, LCD-2 and T1. That doesn't mean that I think it is objectively better, but I do think that it...- bumblingbooby
