The Opamp thread
OPA1641 is decent if low quiescent current is a concern; I prefer the sound of OPA827. That said, I think that ADA4627-1 sounds better than both.- 12Bass

LM4562 / LME49720 / LME49860 - Do they sound different to you?
FWIW, I've tried all three LM/LME types in SOIC and DIP, though none in the metal can. While I may have noticed some slight differences among them, they all sounded fairly similar from what I recall. I've since moved on to other op amps which sound better to me.- 12Bass

Who's your favorite philosopher(s)?
As a student of philosophy, I've found that it has generated a lot of questions, many related to the foundational assumptions of knowledge. Physicalism is one such assumption, and one which, combined with methodological naturalism, has been extremely successful at generating reliable...- 12Bass

K 240 Monitor to DF modification
Although it has been some years since I've compared K240DF with my K240M, my memory suggests that there is a bigger difference than just the character of the midbass response. From what I recall, in addition to flatter bass response, the DF was also more open and extended in the highs. My...- 12Bass

K701 left driver broken
Happened to my K702 as well. As I recall, the yellow wire soldered to one of the terminals broke - think it was going to the left driver. The piece of wire that AKG used at the factory was just a little too short for the job and broke from fatigue after using the headphones for a while. I...- 12Bass

Who's your favorite philosopher(s)?
Quote: Science does provide a mountain of evidence for its various propositions. However, the search for truth has no end and some questions remain presently unanswerable. Humility suggests that a rational mind will accept that epistemic limitations exist, regardless of one's desire...- 12Bass

Who's your favorite philosopher(s)?
Re: Dunning–Kruger effect Since my teens I've been trying to understand the Universe. The more I learn, the more questions arise and the less certain I become about what I think I know. That's not to say that I'm ignorant or that I'm not careful with my epistemic habits. From my...- 12Bass

The Opamp thread
Quote: LME49720 is faster than some... but the slew rate of the LM6172 is considerably higher. Some chips require extra supply bypassing or they will oscillate, usually at ultrasonic frequencies. If you don't have a scope, you can do a finger test to see if they get hot. That...- 12Bass

IC extraction tool? Straighten them very carefully... and don't over do it. If the pins are close, they'll straighten themselves next time they are pushed into a socket. LM6172 is fast and might be unstable. From what I recall it was fairly "clear" sounding. The TLE series may be a...- 12Bass

Pin 1 is for offset trim, so it probably is not used. Chances are the the pins being used are pins 2,3,4,6, and 7. Perhaps be a little more careful next time...- 12Bass

Or maybe OPA2604? Personally, I don't find the newer TI/BB parts (OPA211/1611/827/1641) to sound much like the older ones (OPA132/34/604).- 12Bass

The Opamp thread
After some consideration, I may agree somewhat with majkel about the OPA211. Not sure, but it almost seems as if the frequency spectrum is not entirely continuous, as if there's something missing between the midrange and the treble. In comparison, the OPA827 sounds more "connected", though...- 12Bass

Quote: Mind to say why you think they sound terrible? To my ears, the OP211 and OPA827 have pretty different tonalities. Will be trying the AD797 again soon to see if my impressions might change. Haven't tried ADA4627-1. ADA4898-1 didn't wow me; however, looking at the data...- 12Bass

The Opamp thread
Also did another comparison between OPA211 and OPA1611. Their specifications are extremely close, so much so that it appears that the OPA1611 may just be a rebadged OPA211 which is marketed for audio applications. However, after several A/Bs, there was a noticeable difference between the two. ...- 12Bass

The Opamp thread
Finally had a chance to listen to the OPA228 and made a comparison with OPA211. In my application, I'm hearing perhaps a somewhat thinner, though more open, sound than the OPA211. The OPA211 may have a bit more fullness in the lows, while the upper-midrange/treble region is more aggressive as...- 12Bass
