I will say that I find this DAC to really be excellent, even from a cost no object perspective. Somewhat of a Goldilocks. When Abyss says it is the sound signature everyone is after I don’t think it is unwarranted. It’s what I am using currently and I prefer it overall to Holo, Wells, Chord, Lumin, and Bartok, for the speedy but all around satisfying nature with pleasant vocal clarity and bass. Sometimes I do want for a weightier and less airy (Holo) sound or more detail (any of the others I mentioned except Bartok) but the overall balance is great.
Despite the lack of top grade parts and somewhat shady marketing, it has an excellent tuning in my opinion, especially with regard to price.
I do find that it is not the most robust piece of equipment though and has a lot to gain from power conditioning and digital front end conditioning/source. Plus the connectivity is excellent.
$2k is a reasonable price.
Haven’t tried other Soekris DACs though.
