Second owner WA5, in good condition. The WA5 is a Stereophile Class A integrated 300b amp that does double duty as a world class headphone amp, with a set of speaker outputs enabling it to power efficient speakers as well.

This is a first Gen model, that is sonically identical to the current 2nd Gen model, but does not include the current models unbalanced XLR source inputs, and the front panel switch gain settings differ slightly. It has the $1200 optional upgraded vCap option offered by Woo that is now standard on the current Gen.

It has 10wpc to the speaker outputs, rca inputs for 4 sources, and the front panel allows switching for speakers, and high and low impedance settings for various headphones. It also has a special hi power mode to power very inefficient headphones like the AKG1000, and sends all 10wpc to the headphone output, rather than the standard 2 wpc setting for efficient headphones. The new gen also has this feature but uses a toggle switch instead of the selector switch that mine uses.

Headphone inputs are XLR stereo or 1/4”. All WA5 amps are unbalanced and their XLR connectors for inputs and outputs are for convenience only - the new Gen has one unbalanced XLR source connector which this version lacks, but no WA5 amps are true balanced designs.

These amps received $500 in service from Woo in 2016 when I first purchased them from the original owner and shipped to Woo. Woo did a full inspection, replaced the volume pot, upgraded the two switches to new styles of the current Gen, replaced two of the ceramic tube sockets, upgraded the power connector cable, and resoldered a loose wire. The amps have been absolutely reliable during my ownership, and they benefit from tube experimentation with NOS tubes.

This amp can power an amazing range of speakers - I used successfully with Devore Super 8 and Nines and ProAc Super Tablettes and never turned the volume past the 11 o’clock position. It is the best sounding headphone amp I’ve ever heard and it powered my LCD3, Focal Clear, and HD650 headphones magnificently.

Mine is conservatively rated fair due to several tiny nicks and one larger light scratch on the transformer cover that I’ve tried to capture in the photos. The amps really present as good condition but for these. You can get the transformer covers replaced from Woo but I didn’t notice the unless I was two feet away looking close. I have the original wooden “coffin crates” from Woo. My amp includes the stock 300b, 6SN7, and 5U4G tunes which have less than 50 hrs (I ran upgraded tubes) and I will include a mint set of NOS Westinghouse 6SN7GTB tubes which are worth $90-100/ pr.

I have changed my entire system and am focusing on 2ch speakers , so no trades please, as my system and sources are now complete, and I have a spare Woo WA22 headphone amp to use when desired.

Note: This model is different from the cheaper WA5 LE model, which is headphone only and does not include the optional cap upgrade that my model has.
