A worthwhile upgrade for electrostatic owners.

2 month old Topping EHA5 amplifier for electrostatic headphones…10 months of warranty remaining

Works great with my Drop/Koss ESP950. And HifiMan Jade II headphones. My Nectar Hive X wanted a bit more power, so I opted for a HifiMan Jade II amp (at a way higher price).

So this doesn't drive the Hive to a high enough volume?

I was considering buying one for the Hive.

While it sounds fine with the EHA5, I tend to listen to music with very wide dynamic range…string quartets…small combos, and the Topping had to run at relatively high gain to suit me.

Would you recommend the Jade II amplifier? Does it seem like a worthwhile step up?

I'm very interested in trying out the Hive X, Perun LS, and Es-1a.

The owner of NectarSound, who makes the Hive, is a super nice guy…always a quick reply to my emails.

The Jade II is a brick….weighs around 14 pounds. plenty of gain on tap. Takes up a huge amount of desktop real estate

Down side is HiFiman support, which can be like rewatching “Lost in Translation.”
