Superb DAC, Reviews say it better than I can. Suffice to say if your goal is to have the MOST analog sounding Digital. This is the DAC to beat IMHO.
I find myself regretfully looking for something different. I am in no hurry and would ultimately LOVE to TRADE the sw1x for a 1704 based DAC,,,, I had a Master 7 a while back and would love to get into a later version like the HE7 MKII or MKIII, I will consider odder models but would require some $$$ or other object to make it a fair deal.
I will also consider TOTL Headphones, I would love to try the Raal Sr1a or ZMF etc...............Just shoot me a message with what you have and we can discuss.............................Low Ball offers will be ignored
SW1X Audio Design DAC III STD+, with silver faceplate
This unit is a two owner DAC, from a smoke and pet free home. There are no physical or functional issues. There is good reason why you'll see many rave reviews - this is one smooth and musical DAC.
This unit was a custom order from Dr. Slawa. in 2018 As you may know, SW1X offers many options/configurations of their DACs. To the best of my knowledge, per the information provided by SW1X, it includes:
- Specially selected and harmonically matched component & material quality
- NOS (Non oversampling –zero digital domain filtering) design
- Based on 1x TDA1541 – the most analogue sounding DAC chip ever made directly connected to a SPDIF receiver
- Dynamic Element Matching (DEM) of the TDA1541 is powered by an asynchronous E180F valve clock with EAA91 valve rectified power supply
- Active I/V conversion via a single specially selected Silicium transistor (with less than 10 Ohm input impedance) with the shortest signal path directly connected to the tube grid
- Anode follower, zero feedback, single ended 6N6P or 5687 double triode valve output stage
GZ34 tube rectified CLC (choke filtered) tube output stage power supply
- Circuit is wired with of a specially selected copper
- Discrete Germanium transistor based shunt voltage regulated power supplies for the TDA1541, SPDIF receiver and active I/V conversion
- Supports up to 24Bit/96kHz digital coaxial S/PDIF signal input
- 3 x EI core 110/115/230/240VAC mains transformers
The "+" indicates these upgrades over the standard version:
a) 2 x Audio Note Copper foil, mylar in Oil signal output decoupling capacitors
b) 4 x Black Gate capacitors around TDA1541
c) Audio Note 2W copper, non- magnetic, tantalum film resistors on plates of the output tube
d) Premium vintage NOS black plate Tung Sol 5687/E182CC output tube
e) Directly heated vintage 5R4 type of tube (from the 60s) in the PSU
f) Additional choke filtering on the DEM clock tube PSU for the TDA1541
g) Output wiring is normally one pair in fine silver and other is copper (by default), This way one can fine tune the sound by using either output.
At the time it was made, SW1X did not use "factory boxes" It will be packed to survive a bomb blast
