NOTE: This is I believe to be a 404 Signature in an original Lambda Signature (1987) body, it was apparently known that when the original Lambda drivers got replaced in the 90's, they would replace them with 404's.

404 Sig sounds to me noticeably more detailed than the older Lambda Pro I had. It images, stages, separates and layers better with flatter bass extension to my hearing, also sounds noticeably faster. Though timbre is a bit leaner by comparison despite being more technical. Hell even dynamics aren't that bad for an estat, if you give it a good chain it'll reward you, seems to take really well to bass shelves via EQ. Was bringing out some great textural low end detail for my more electronic stuff.

In your pictures the shell and cable look dark instead of that 404 beige. Is that just lighting or were the drivers put into a different lambda shell?
Good question, this was I "believe" originally a Lambda Signature that had its drivers replaced later on with a 404. I actually paid so much more for this than I'd care to admit because it was originally advertized as a Signature model from 1987, only later as I removed the old foam that I found out the drivers had the red ring and not a black ring as expected, when I bought it I couldn't see the red ring in the pictures so assumed it was the original 1987 model. So yes, it's as you said and not camera tricks. Perhaps I should specify this in the ad description.
