Here is something you won't see again, an early Black Friday/Cyber Monday special:
- A Stax Megatron with boards personally built by Kevin Gilmore
- A fully tube-rectified Megatron designed by Kevin (similar to the tube-rectified Grand Cayman)
- A set of custom Toroidy (because Sumr was no good) transformers installed by Soren Brix, along with Soren's custom 60-second HV delay board.
- 120/220V with the flip of a switch
Soren installed the transformers in Denmark in February 2023, and has been running the amp throughout the year - over 100 hours in total. It has performed flawlessly. The Megatron runs hot; it will need to be installed where there is ample space for active ventilation or in a rack with active ventilation. Shipping can be arranged directly with Soren.
Background:
- I exited the hobby earlier this year (no more office setup), and am selling the amp for well below my parts cost.
- This is certainly my favorite amplifier alongside the Kerry DIY T2 and George DIY T2 I've owned; I think it's a better pairing with the SGL/X9000/009 series, which really benefit from the 12AU7/12AX7 input tubes and tube rectification.
- Full build collab thread here: https://www.head-case.org/forums/topic/10783-megatron-electrostatic-headphone-amplifier/page/39/
- The amp has XLR inputs (fully balanced) and a 120/220V switch.
- The amp ships in a Pelican-style hard case with power supply section tubes included. You will need to buy two quads of EL34's and a pair of 12AU7/12AX7 each. You can ask to buy these tubes from Soren directly, if you prefer.
- The weight is about 65lbs in the Pelican case, and the dimensions are: 25x19x14 inches. Should be in the $250 range to ship to NA.
Buyer arranges and covers the cost of shipping from Soren in Denmark.
