Up for sale are my beloved JM Audio Editions XTC-Closed original (1.0) version headphones. You can see from that they are the polished black version (I polished them further with carnauba wax). They cost $900 new.
They are the 64 ohm version, beryllium drivers, 113.5 dB sensitivity. Since John Massaria tunes each of his headphones to your taste, I selected the nearly scapel tuning. The buyer is able to send them to John for a free retuning if he/she desires a different tuning and just pay for shipping. You can also affect the tuning by covering small ports in the driver housings.
They come with a nicely made, flexible, stock OFC copper cable with 4-pin XLR amp connection. Two pairs of earpads come with the phones but I never tried the perforated leather ones, preferring to leave the stock leather/memory foam pads on.
I was able to drive them to listening levels using my Benchmark HPA4 desktop amp, laptop computer, even my old iPhone 6. As you can imagine, the better the source, the better the sound. Even though they are nearly scapel tuned, I would characterize the sound as slightly warm, a robust midrange, and great bass with sweet highs. They might not be suitable for those bass-heads who want titanic bass, so you might want to look elsewhere for this type of sound.
The phones work perfectly and look great. I just moved up the line to a more expensive JMAE XTC-C 2.5 headphone so these are now extra phones. Someone else should enjoy them as much as I did.
