THIS ITEM IS SOLD
Up for sale is a Burson HA-160 headphone amplifier. This amp was introduced in 2010 and I have owned it since March 2010. This is a very nice looking device constructed with 6mm thick silver aluminum. The unit weights 11 pounds. I have had it stored in a closet for the past four years but I have used it over the past two weeks to confirm that it operates as it should.
Price is $95.00 or best offer. That price includes PayPal fees and ground shipping within the continental USA only. Original packaging, user manual, volume attenuator and a power cable are included.
It has two single ended outputs on the front panel – one for headphones of 15 to 150 ohms (right side) and a second for headphones of 150 ohms and higher (left side). The amp has worked well for me and sounds great.
PLEASE READ
I believe that this unit may have been an early finished example during the development process. As a result there are a couple of idiosyncrasies and I want to be very open about them. The amp has been priced accordingly.
First, this unit has a standard volume control knob – it does not have the stepped attenuator knob used in later builds. Could be perceived as an advantage as it provides finer control and no clicking.
Second, the volume knob ramps up very quickly – gets too loud very early in the knob range so at 10 o’clock on the knob it is very loud. I had a custom volume attenuator built to resolve that issue and it will be included with the amplifier.
Third, the unit hums with the standard three prong plug so I’ve always used it with a cheater plug and it has performed without issue. Cheater plug will also ship with the unit.
I always enjoyed this amplifier - warts and all - and could not just throw it out. I hope someone else can use it.
Thanks for looking. PM with questions.
