For anyone who doesn't know the Arya, it's a fantastic headphone. This is the latest iteration, which includes the cloth material on the outer ear cup. This was introduced for a couple of reasons, one of which was to reign in the treble a little - and a fine job HiFiMan did. I moved to the Arya from the HD800S because I wanted more bass but I also wanted stage and resolution - the Arya ticked all these boxes for me. It has a deep, spacious stage and excellent layering/separation (which are top of my priority list). Detail is all there, and what I love about it is that it doesn't shove the detail in your face (like the HD800S does). Rather, it allows you to fetch the detail you want, always giving you the control of where you want it to be, upfront or in the background (it excels in this area). Bass is textured and runs deep into subterranean levels. Mids are well presented and full, I would say ever-so-slightly recessed but never lacking - I found them just right. Treble is clean, crisp and extended - how I like it.
I found a great synergy with the Arya, my NOS11 and Little Dot MK VI+. It shines on the right SS amp and tubes. I would recommend a slightly north of neutral DAC or amp but for those who like plenty detail, it should also shine on a clean/reference rig (it excelled on both my Master 9 and LD MK VI+ when I had the NOS11 on DAC-only duties - and the NOS11 DAC is neutral/reference). For those who like to tinker, it responds very well to EQ. I loved it with its vanilla sound signature from the start and kept it this way through all my listening (but I did test some EQ to check if it really does respond well, and I can confirm that indeed it does).
