This is Firstwatt Sit 3 power amp, a kit version which my friend(Experienced audio engineer) modified a bit to improve the dynamics than the original.

I had to beg him to sell it to me several years ago because it sounded so freaking wonderful.

As funny as it sounds, this amp sounds more like a tube amp than tube amps. It has a very euphoric and luscious sound which can hypnotize you. Wide stage with beautiful decay and will make any harsh recorded materials a joy to listen to. This is one of the most forgiving amp I have ever heard. Absolute bargain of an amplifier. Could be the best sounding amp for some people who hates harshness and piercing treble.

For people like me who often listens to poorly recorded materials, this is the perfect amp. This amp can sugarcoat anything that is harsh. It's like drinking a creamy milk filled with honey. If you have a high efficient speaker, it will be perfect for the system. Unfortunately, I might have to let this go(not even 100% sure yet myself) because I need a higher power amp since I am going to buy a bookshelf speaker that is notorious to drive.

This amp is modified by my audio engineer friend to have little more juice, 18watt -> 25 watt 8ohms so it has bit more dynamics than the original version. It runs hot since its a Class A amplifier.

Also the transistor doesn’t look like the original Pass Labs JFET version. Layout is also different from the OEM version. I think I figured it out. Instead of Nelson SIT, the build used Sony vFET and probably a DIY gain stage. Without talking to the engineer and putting the amp under scope it’s hard to assess TBH.

Also where is the voltage step up transformer Nelson used for the voltage gain? The pair of SIT are only used for current gain.

No SIT and no transformer - not sure how this amp is SIT3.

Don’t know how I missed that one, good catch. Not sure what this design even is, it strays far from the original if it’s not even using passive gain.
