being a hybrid, does it work if you take out the tube or it needs to have the tube installed for it to work?

Hey - No, it's a hybrid in the sense that the amplification has a solid-state current buffer I believe, coupled with the tube providing voltage gain. I'm not the most knowledgeable on amp designs, so that may be an oversimplification. All that's to say it only works with the tube on.

Schiit used to sell this LISST solid state tube. It's been discontinued so might be hard to find. If you want to try tube amp without the tube sound then LISST is suppose to be linear and last longer since it's solid state.

That being said the seller is including the stock tube and even if it breaks it's fairly cheap to replace:
