The reason you do not see this model for sale more often is that most owners do not want to part with them.

They truly are special, better than most people might think.

Someone will be very happy to discover what the cult is about.

Beautiful condition, very fair price.

If I can afford it I would.

I too have one of these. They do sound good, especially when driven by a beefy amp given its high impedance. They look good as well. Finally, the build is remarkable, unlike many flimsy headphones of that era or even later models in the same league.

What sort of beefy amp ?

What sort of beefy amp ?

1. A tube amp
2. Not a hybrid tube amp
3. An OTL
4. One that's on the warmer side—noticeably warmer than the DNA house sound—but not gross (warmed over, loss of detail)

Otherwise the drivers will sound separated instead of integrated. (The Dharma D1000 has the same issue, but I don't know if its treble spike and yucky, fuzzy bass can be fixed.)

Something as a cheap as a Darkvoice 336SE with vintage tubes will do. A Fitz-modded Darkvoice would be a step up. Ideally, something similarly warm, but with better technicalities. A Woo amp is too risky a choice, because the sound is hit-or-miss and you're paying extra for looks. If you care that much about your amp's looks, you're not getting laid enough. The Decware house sound is a good choice, and Steve also does custom work. One old timer whom I trust, even though I don't know him personally, uses a Mapletree OTL (custom, I think, because his K-340 is hardwired balanced), but I haven't heard it myself.

Currently, I primarily use a McIntosh MHA200 (tube HP amp) for the K340 and other dynamic cans with up to 600-ohm impedance. I also tried them off the phones jack of various solid-state, vintage speaker amps (the integrated/receiver kind). Those combinations were delightful. In contrast, several otherwise decent well-known yet less powerful desktop HP amps performed poorly. The beefier amps are noticeably synergistic with the K340. Keep in mind, these headphones are not only high-impedance but also low-efficiency with a dB/mW or db/V rating of around 90, which is about 10 dB lower than many easier-to-drive modern headphones, thus requiring about 10 times more power. The beefier amps deliver that power effortlessly for an overall more pleasant listening experience.
