I love Cyndi on her album "The Body Acoustic"(2005), where we get to hear her endearing lisp to some lyric's sung, along with very well recorded acoustical instruments with just beautiful arrangements to her meaningful songs .
A powerful voice in her upper registers, yet so sweet - simply outstanding.

for the idea. The Quintet is basically Miles Davis' second quintet without Miles
but instead Freddie Hubbard on trumpet ... first they perform live in the US and
then live in Japan, with different set lists. Yum. HD800 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>

Impressions: The Pepper album is indeed superbly produced ... Tom had said
that he uses it to evaluate new gear - now I understand why. The dynamic range
is very high. The quintet music is downright excellent jazz, and it's a real treat to
hear Tony Williams play the drums. What a pioneer. Happy listening, all.

I will check those out as well, currently I am listening to the music from the Bosch TV series on Qobuz, Pepper, Davis, Coltrane, Otis Rush et Alia.

@RCBinTN may recall I assembled all gear from the Bosch TV show just to see what it sounded like with specific Jazz recordings.

After that will be more vinyl, Tom Waits Blue Valentine album. Only tube gear for me with vinyl. If I go with headphones then it is Focal Utopia with my own tube amp design.

A golden oldie. One of the earlier HIP performance of Haydn symphonies. I would have thought that by now it would have been surpassed by newer releases.
I have listened to recordings of the Freiburger Barockorchester and the most recent ones of Il Giardino Armonico, but I prefer Pinnock overall.
Il Giardino Armonico plays with more gusto and sharp dynamic accents, but it doesn't always fit the music well. I sometimes get the sense that they just put their trademark Il Giardino Armonico stamp on it, the one they invented in their Vivaldi recordings (which worked for that composer).
To my ears Haydn symphonies need some elegance and refinement and with this I don't mean measured, square and dull. but a bit more polish than many current ensembles, that like to play everything like it is a Vivaldi concerto. Not that Il Giardino Armonico lacks refinement, but they exaggerate dynamics and attacks to the point that it becomes a mannerism. Still I admire them greatly.
It also could be that I am bit tired to hear pre-romantic repertoire played in the exact same fast, exiting and dynamic way. Pinnock is 'duller' in a good way.
That 80's Archiv/DG sound is marvelous. True, rather produced, it lacks the naturalness of say Harmonia Mundi at that time (who incorporated a bit more of the actual room acoustics in their recordings), but it has a nice stereo image, is clear, polished and full bodied.

That's a good, solid album. Helped get me through the "the dark and uncertain Rush years" ( '97 -'02 due to Neil's double tragedies). I've hoped for another Geddy solo album since.
