And how do they sound matched with the ZX707 in balanced? Thank you
My IER M9 is in continuous use with the ZX707 when I travel as I do now.

About time I check out the ZX707/ MV1 combo and will do so when I get home later this week. Thank you for reminding me..

Curious to this pairing myself now as well:)

Zero graphs show the sony MV1 as V shaped. To this day i am shocked at how many people dont know how to read said graphs. You want v shaped, sony extrabass headphones. That is v-shaped. The MV1 are nowhere near v-shaped. They are literally professional headphones meant for actual sound production. Its perfectly fine if natural bass is too much for you. And you prefer anemic "audiophile" headphones that have little to no bass. However that doesnt set the standard....
Calm down, geez. Apparently numerous pro headphone reviewers like Resolve don't know how to read a graph either since they all mention a bass and treble boost. That doesn't make them bad, and I certainly never implied it was extreme (I've had headphones with stronger bass than this). If you actually read more than a few words of my post you would see that I liked them overall, even if there are a couple issues with them (not the greatest mids and a sharp treble spike). These are meant for "virtual surround" production, and I think that's why they went with the response that they did. I'm not an audio snob in any way, and this is the only studio monitor headphone I've ever owned.

Some years ago, before my foray into audiophilia, I was rocking the MDR-1A like there was no tomorrow.
Sitting here listening to the MDR-MV1, I am transported back to those days of velvet-y, fulfilling bass notes and piercing - but not too piercing - vocals. Admittedly, I bought this headphone primarily due to its design and comfort, but I think it’s a perfectly capable backup by virtue of its portability and driveability. They are incredibly lightweight and comfortable and feel durable enough.

The sound is mostly pleasant and spacious, not particularly revealing or anything, okay timbre and separation, but I do wish the bass was scaled back just a little bit in favor of some low end texture. It certainly reminds me more of the MDR-1As than the 7506s.

Anyone have any cable suggestions? The stock one is a bit too long and I wouldn’t mind a 3.5 cable without the pigtail adapter.

MV1 has the most amazing, pleasant, deep, luxury bass I've heard in an open can, that's primarily reason to keep it for me, everything else is fine too, tho better on most other cans like Senns, they are spacious sounding too, details are good not great, you hear everything, it's generally very smooth sounding headphone, especially with the right source like 707, this is despite the treble which is only sounding a little shrill in some badly done dance tracks for example, I am using the 4.4 cable form 1A2 for now , the Forza Noir Hybrid will be here soon

mv1 scales really well. They sound terrific off of my acro ca1000 and my npaudio modded 1a :) I don't think the sennies can do what these do

I confirm what someone said earlier in the thread, MUC-S12SB1 is a game changer on the MV1, at least to my ears. And I'm not a big cable-miracles believer, but this is distinctive with that combo; as good as the original cable is, the Kimber brings noticeable enhancement all around.
MV1 with S12SB1 is great. On the.MDR1AM2 it didn't do much for me. Had this cable lying around for years without much use!

Big step up from the 1AM2 balanced cable, in detail retrieval especially:)

Yeah problem is I can't get one, so I opted for Forza

How is the soundstage and the micro details? Have you heard the K702 or K812? Are they also suitable for watching movies with big deep bass impact when needed? Hopefully the Forza cable will take them to another level.
Very impressive imaging imo, they’re the most speaker like headphones I have heard. Because of this detail is quite good, but they are definitely more fun than natural sounding. Would still love some more low end texture rather than rumble.

So far my modded wm1a is the best source I've tried, If I get something like an a&k ca1000 I'll let you know if they scale with power or if they're pretty much at their full potential with the wm1a :)
Forgot to update. the wm1a and ca1000 are basically on par sound wise. the mdr z1r and mv1 do not gain anything from the extra power.

Out of curiosity, I tried MV1's earpads on M1ST and CD900ST. For both of these, I have tried 5 or 6 pairs including Yaxi pads2 and m-st. For CD900ST, it's really hard to find any thing that sounds on par with the thin stock pads. For M1ST, I found Yaxi Pads2 work the best, super laidback, super clean, extremely resolving, but very boring.

MV1's pads are actually a bit larger, and the fit is very loose on the closed backs, and the Yaxi pads simply won't fit on MV1. I didn't do extensive test, only maybe 10 minutes on each. I must say, the MV1's pads work extremely well for both of the closed backs. There is some boost in the bass and rumble, but not boomy and still very clean. They actually made M1ST sound a little more lively. For CD900ST, the MV1 pads significantly improved bass quality. They pushed the mids a little backward, but the mids are still running the show. So, I guess the pads are a major factor for how MV1 sounds.

I think right now the closest thing to MV1 pads are the Yaxi Mst pads. If they change the leather to suede and increase the depth by a couple millimeters, they would be perfect.
