That's the best way to permanently decrease the clamping force: keep the two sides in some distance when not listening, without pressing at the ear pads. It worked very well with my HD-580 Precision and HD-650. You don't need do it excessively or for more than a few days (or even less) because that will lead to a smaller clamping force than the ideal. Better do it progressively. My office HD560s prepped for the weekend

My HD599 which are same chassis as HD560S have significantly less clamp after few months of almost everyday use. In fact there was perceivable difference in just weeks. No need to manually bent them. The ability to bend the metal bands / sliders makes "the clamp" a non issue on the HD6.... series
I do however also own the "all plastic" HD560s and while I like the sound signature, I am not happy about not being able to "adjust" the clamp

I found the clamp force not too bad. It’s mostly a little annoying the first week or two then they become quite comfortable with normal use. I personally rate a broken-in HD 6xx series headphone around a 8/10 comfort wise. Whereas a broken in HD 560 S is about a 8.5/10 for me and this is due to the wider headband padding on the HD 560 S.

......curious if you could elaborate just a bit as to how S2 compare with the 660S....as I also found the 660S leagues ahead of the previous 600 series in depth, instrument layering and seperationThe HD600 has the same soundstage width as the HD660S2. The 3 blob imaging actually works well with the HD600 as it gives off a weightless feeling to music.
The HD660S2 fills in the gaps with depth and regards to imaging, is a full league better on the HD660S2.
..........
Just did a fair amount of listening between the HD800S and HD660S, and while the HD800S almost immediatly put you in the zone, the HD600S took a tune or 2 to acclimatize.
Got inspired to do the comparisons after last nights performance. : ) Live is fun but the studio album is a better listen with good phones.
And another..The Coltrane Sutras....live last night. : )
Sorry Ichos....sounds great with headphones though. : )

Same as the 660S if I am not mistaken.
I‘m so excited to see new Sennheisers!
I’ve had HD660S before. They were superior to HD650 in technical specs. But to me HD660S were so boring on anything I’ve tried: SA-1, A90, Lyr, Mainline, Folkwangr. I couldn’t listen to them more then 15mins. Was it tuning? maybe.
On the other hand the HD650 on Folkwangr and CMA15 are God level to me. They are alive.
I hope new S2 are not boring.

Like my 660s with V280, the warmth of that amp seems to bring back the body/smoothness I am unable to find with other pairings. Amazing how synergy has saved several of my headphones!

HD660S2 vs HD660s et al.
Bass:
Extension on the HD660S2 by the way compared to the HD660S and it digs deep.
Mids:
Transitions from lower frequencies to upper mids on the HD660S are smoother. Mids on the HDS660S2 is clearer. The HD660S and HD600 lacks moments of transparency like the HD560S. The HD660S2 has moments of complete transparency with the right vocalist. With the wrong vocalist, the mids have slight bass bleed. With the wrong vocalist, the upper mid extension on vocals lack air, therefore sometimes it will seem the vocalist is out of breath.
Treble:
HD660S has a hole in the lower treble, but does not lack air or sparkle, this also does not hinder speech clarity or vocal clarity with S sounds in the slightest. HD660S2 has full treble accuracy and clarity compared to the HD560S, HD600, HD660S. This is the closest to realistic treble I've ever heard in a headphone, I'm absolutely floored. For HD600 users, this will take some getting used to because the HD600 focuses on high treble. The HD660S focuses on sparkle. The HD560S is perfect as an entry level headphone but is plagued with treble that is quite wide and splashy.
Imaging and Soundstage:
The HD660S2 has slightly better imaging over the already spectacular HD660S. To elaborate, the center imaging is denser than the HD660S. Sorry I will have to refer to games for this, but if there was a sound behind me, I no longer question that with the HD660S2 that I did with the HD660S. Since sounds in front and middle is so defined that anything that deviates from sound sources in front regarding the middle-center image, can be heard as sound from the rear. Sounds from left to right also not only sounds directional but also layered, because the way they made center imaging denser was by pulling sources that are typically wider into the middle while retaining details from layers outside the middle.
Unfortunately since the HD660S2 is layered and in the same soundstage size as the HD660S (or what sounds to me a similar size), it will often sound busy, it's not a relaxing headphone like the HD600.
Mind you I've had a few days for my brain to adjust to the HD660S2, and my brain craves more time with the HD660S2 in a quiet room. More than any other headphone I've purchased in the last 4 years.

Funny how we all have different perspectives...over the years I had 3 pairs of HD650s and the 6XX all of which I found too boring and not engaging at all for my preferences and music. The HD660S on the other hand were like a breath of fresh air. lolI’ve had HD660S before. They were superior to HD650 in technical specs. Baby HD800 is a JAR650 v2. Just sayin'
Judging from the first measurements that have been "leaked', I think that the S2 in a way returns to the HD-650 tuning (more bass and treble than the 660S), "exaggerating" I bit more. A detailed comparison of the new headphone with the HD-650 would be very interesting, especially since the S2 brings better technicalities too. I only hope that a theoretical wary of too much (mid) bass is without cause.

I’ve owned the HD 650 3 times as well and the HD 6XX. Always found them on the boring side and not in a good way. I’ve owned the HD 600 once and the HD 660 S twice. The HD 600 is also kinda boring but it was in a good way unlike the HD 650 imho. I regret letting go of the HD 600 to this day. The HD 660 S was engaging but I got a strange fatigue on them I can’t pinpoint the cause so doesn’t work out for me despite loving their sound. It’s why I’m eyeing the HD 660S2 or the HD 600, possibly both. Not quite but should be interesting!
