Right beside you, honey.
I don't want to damage anything and I'm looking at this one unit without the included power supply.

Questions that I have:

-How would I know which power suppliers would work?
-Is it possible to damage the driver unit if using the wrong power supply?
-I got this power supply from a Schiit Magni, will it work (input: 120VAC 60 Hz; output: 16VAC 500 mA 8W)?

I'm looking to get this power supply just to power the thing if the power supply from the Magni doesn't work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/UL-Power-Supply-Adapter-AC-DC-12V-0-5A-1A-2A-3A-4A-5A-5050-3528-LED-Strip-Light-/201648748922?var=&hash=item2ef333b97a:m:mmi5r7sTGu_fWxAi650_yTA

When in doubt, always pay careful attention to the labelling near the power jack.

Specifically, you need a 12VDC supply rated for at least 4W with a center negative plug. The plug is 2.1mm x 5.5mm. Using an incompatible supply will likely blow the fuse inside. Do not use the supply from your Magni.

Either one of these would work:

Thanks for the info!

Hi,

I am planning to get STAX SRS-3100 system from japan. My question is for the SRM-252S power supply most probably they ll give a wall wart which is designed to get 100v AC from the power socket and convert it to 12v/4w DC.

correct me if i am wrong this is my understanding.

I reside in India where the AC from my power socket is 220-240v. I was thinking of two options

1. To get a step down transformer to convert 220v to 100v and plug the stax wall wart to it.(I was not able to find a step down from 220V to 100V in my country)
2. To get a new wall wart that supports 12v/4W DC.Since the polarity is reversed in the STAX. I am not sure which adapter i should choose and really confused with the polarity reversal..

Any help is Appreciated.

By the way, will a transformer-type bring any improvement over switching one?

Maybe could run into noise issues depending on the SMPS? Don't think the high voltage circuit in the amp has an input filter. Also looks like I linked to simply an unregulated linear supply with the same rating as the stock Stax adapter. Could do better with a regulated one, with more headroom, say:
https://www.jameco.com/z/DDU120100H...ngle-Output-12-Volt-1-Amp-12-Watt_170245.html

That is center positive since I don't see one from Jameco with a center negative plug, so unless rewiring yourself will need something like this:

There are few with center negative: a budget option is, for instance, Volset VSM-1231 (despite ugly looks, it is a decent brand, Aurorasound uses their power supplies): http://www.aikoh-d.co.jp/ac/

A fancy one is dedicated Airbow PAC-253, but I am hesitant to pay that price: https://airbow.jp/shopdetail/000000000235/
