Hello guys

After buying the hip dac i had to sell my ath msr7b because hissing was driving me nuts.

Is there a recommendation for a great pair of headphones to be paired with the hip dac, so i can try them in a store?

Up to 400/500€ tops.

I listen to every genre, so something that is flexible.

Thx

You could try say Meze 99 Classic. Unless you're after IEMs?

What Rob said ~ 99 Classics are an excellent bang for the buck option. I would recommend the Campfire Cascade as well if you can find one used around your price, but it might be a little bit above your range.

If you're looking at IEMs, that's a little more up my personal alley, but either way I would recommend grabbing an IEMatch to have on hand.

I would recommend the Campfire Cascade

I can easily agree on these as well. I like Cascades also due to their build quality. In my private roster on assembly they're second to none. On hand they feel like a luxurious product made to last and not visually flashy at all :)

I’ve got some 99 Noirs (supposedly identical sound signature to the 99 Classics). Not bad, but headphones you use when you’re in the mood. My go-to’s for the Hip DAC are actually the Hifiman HE4XX w/XBass and Sony MDR-1AM2 for closed option.
IEM wise, Moondrop Starfields are wonderful or iKKO OH-1s for a steeper V shape. FiiO FH3s are a’ight on it, depends on what you’re listening to.

For the Hip DAC? There’s a lot to love about it. Good power for full-sized headphones. Nice, clean sound signature. I’m a big fan (as many people are) of the XBass feature. I don’t always use it but it’s the perfect bass boost for those headphones that lack it. It’s been my go-to DAC/amp since I got it a couple months ago.
The Hifiman HE4XX’s pair really nice with it (especially if you can get a balanced cable) because they have the classic planar magnetic detail. Upper mids and highs sound very life like. Pairing it with the Hip DAC’s bass boost gives them the perfect sound signature to listen to almost anything.

Great feedback, thanks! It's always interesting to read for what people like hip-dac and I've been reading about the same things pretty much :)

I personally like xBass too. Not because it boosts bass, but does so well enough to not impact anything higher up in the audible range. And of course power. Such a small device but quite the output :)

Thanks again :beerchug:
