iFi audio GO Bar - The Best Pocketable HiFi System, Bar None!

The ddHifi MFi07S doesn’t work with my iPhone 13 (running iOS 17.4.1) with the standard Ifi Go Bar. Sporadically lose sound through earbuds, although iPhone shows music still playing. Linsoul wants me to send them a video of the problem. Frustrated because the phone screen doesn’t reflect any issue. Just lack of sound through the ear buds. ☹️
You can try reversing the cable, testing another dongle and then contact ddHiFi directly for assistance.

Thanks for the tip regarding contacting DDHiFi directly. I will give that a shot. The cable is lightning on one end and USB-C on the other, so I’m not really sure how I would flip the cable?
However, I would send another email to the store... to ask "how do you make a video of a dongle that doesn't play?"

Just ordered the gold bar (open box) at a good price. Can’t wait to join the club! I stream lossless so not much interest in the Kensei that costs more.

Can I check if firmware updates come with MacOS files as well, like the Diablo? I noticed that there’s 2.5 and 2.2 which indicated “Limited Edition”. Which firmware should i go for? (Pardon the pun ^ ^)

I have the same problem with iPad Pro 2022 + ddHifi TC9S + iFi Go and Gold bars combo. The song is playing, but no sound hearing.

@iFi audio: Are you able to help me?

The best bet would be to submit a ticket to our support team using this link...

I am no "guru" of DD HiFi cables and adapters but why would you need an OTG cable if it's USB C? Thought you could use straight USB C no need for OTG as that was android, or I could be wrong, lol

Cheers!!

Hello folks
I have a pair of Verum 2's coming at some point later this year. I'm starting to find my way as have never owned headphones. Will the Go Bar/ Kensei power those hphones well?

Thanks
While you are waiting for direct answers you can give our headphone calculator a go by inputting your device specs here...

https://ifi-audio.com/home-2/headphone-calculator/

With that design, I would definitely wait for some other Planar folks to comment.

Cheers!!

Thanks. Yes, I definitely need direction here due to my complete lack of knowledge re headphones and appropriate dacs/amps.

I have a Verum 1 mk2 (and kickstarted a Verum 2 too) and an ifi GO bar (not gold, not Kensei, just "normal"). The GO bar powers the Verum 1 from the balanced output in "turbo" mode despite the extremely low impedance (8 Ohm) and relatively low sensitivity (96dB/mW - if I am not mistaken) to somehow pleasing sound quality with sufficient bass and volume (for me) without distortion... in fact you can drive them to unhealthy and ear destroying 110 dB(A) SPL at 1 kHz (measured on my EARS rig) without even maxing the volume of the GO bar out (don't do it !) - but that kind of margin is needed for lower frequency "rumble". The Verum 1 headphones are actually a bit easier to drive than the numbers would suggest.

It is obviously not the best option to drive these relatively demanding planars in terms of authority and precision but maybe one of the best truly mobile ones (i.e. with the very small form factor). If you are a fan of loud listening and heavy bass punch/impact, the GO bar with the Verum might demand more power supply than your phone/tablet/... will provide (especiall if its an apple product) and starve out or even go into protection (not experienced so far but I am a quite listener (at typically 75 dB SPL)).

The Verum 2 is supposed to have a slightly higher impedance (12 Ohm) and lower sensitivity (94 dB/mW). I guesstimate that you can drive them in balanced mode (i.e. you need a 4.4mm cable which are easy to get and cheap or even part of the kickstarter bundle) while on the go. However, the Verum 1 are very open an leaking sound in all directions and I assume the Verum 2 is similar (unless there will be the closed cups as optional accessory) - thus not the best mobile solution anyway.

But if you ask "power ... well" I have to say that to really enjoy these headphones (and all similar planars), investing (also) in a beefier (desk) amplifier which provides some more current for usage at home might be a good idea.

@TheFritz
Many thanks for your thoughtful reply. It's early days here in terms of getting organised for a new headphone set up and I have a lot to learn! My wife has changed work pattern and must go to bed earlier so playing the system at night is not possible for a while, which is why I need a decent head rig now. Thanks again for the pointer and I'll keep researching ( have plenty of time to get it right ).
Cheers
