Discover a new world of sound: Make way for the IE 200
Jan 25, 2023 at 3:11 PM Post #61 of 176
My IE 200s just got delivered and the initial listening experience is very positive. The cable is a little thin and cheap feeling so a 4.4mm Balanced cable might be on my radar when Sennheiser releases them later this year but beyond that so far so good! They are super light and very comfortable.
Welcome to the #IE200Club! The cable is certainly lighter but I think will stand the test of time. The market had asked for a cable that was less microphonic and more pliable than the current IE series cable and I think it will win you over in time. Let us know what tracks you are listening to, And if you have tried the dual eartip staging yet.

Why this is compared to IE600 and not to IE300 in the first place being second in lineup? Does IE200 make IE300 obsolete? Looks like clickbait video to get ppl into thinking IE200 are almost the same thing at a fraction of the cost.... which probably is not the case like most times. Hope it's not just slightly less detailed version of IE600, because if there's not much more to IE600 in terms of sound quality then it makes them a total ripp-off and IE200 a steal, while IE300 like I said - obsolete. Actually that would be awesome, just not to those who already invested in IE300 and IE600 :)

This new IE200 is also interesting in terms of pricing, cuz 149$/E only in theory is half the cost of IE300, as it is well known IE300 are on very frequent discounts at amazon for 130-150 euros at least here in Europe so both models will have same price. It begs some question is IE200 better (given some dare to compare them with IE600) or worse or different flavour to IE300? Or perhaps Amazon will set limited offers for IE200 something like 80-100$/E accordingly to what they're doing with IE300 price ?

But perhaps the most important question has Sennheiser finally fixed "no sound" issue common in this lineup of IEMs? Amazon IE300 reviews are still flooding with negative user reviews from people who bought them recently, but I've seen many of such user issues regarding IE600 and IE900 of course not to IE300 extend as it is most likely selling best of the bunch hence more users talking about it. Curious if they improved built quality in these new IE200...
He compared it to the IE600 since the tuning in most similar compared to the IE600. The IE300 and IE900 tuning is pretty different with their scooped upper mids

Will the IE200 cable be available to purchase... ask for a frien... I mean, IE600. :beerchug:
Yep! On the headgear page for IE 200 we list out all of the cables... they'll all be available separately in a few months. If we get them any sooner I'll make a post.

Mine arrived, initial impressions are very positive! Really balanced sound, nice soundstage and imaging. They also weigh basically nothing.

I already wrote about this, but it doesn't explain much, surely not the huge price difference! Can't be just a fancy metal and two cables in the box, can it?

There are more reviews surfacing on YouTube, for example this one is not so ravy about IE200. He said staging is great, which is similar to other IE's in the lineup and that's good, but the bass and treble are weak points, yet the overall balance is still colored, just more flat than IE300/600/900. What worries me the most is perhaps too much reduced treble I know some people complained about it in other models threads, but it's what makes possible to retrieve microdetails that may be something IE200 can't do. Anyways I'm hoping to see more reviews soon.

I listen to whatever is on the top of the charts or catches my interest on that given day. Pretty diverse in terms of genres. I haven't really messed with the dual staging yet as i was pretty happy with the tips fully seated. It will be interesting to see the longevity of these as I had a few pairs of IE 300s fail pretty early so if these stay working then they will be a winner.

I’ve been playing around with it, can certainly tell the difference. Bass is reduced a bit in the ‘outer’ position, I don’t think the treble really changes but as the bass is reduced it’s certainly brighter. Quite a cool feature, I thought the tips might push back down when in the outer position but haven’t had that issue at all. Will switch between them depending on the genre.

Ok so after reading Headfonia comparison to IE300 my hype went down a little. That would be a shame, especially if rumors IE300 being vanished from the market and replaced by a lesser IE200 are true... Nevertheless may still want to try IE200 if and when Amazon decides to discount them greatly, like they did many times with IE300. Offer IE200 at 80-100 euros and I scoop them for comparison sake, extra tips and braided cable, that would cost more than antire earphones set if buy separetly:dt880smile:

I hope you get to try them for yourself. There will be some in-depth reviews coming shortly that should help flesh out your opinion of interest until you get to try them in person. In the end if you like the 300 more than the 200 then that's your choice and nothing wrong with that at all. Amazon will not be discounting a new-new product.

While I don’t doubt the possibility that the IE200 is a step down in terms of refinement from the IE300, also calling it less V-shaped and more balanced than the IE200 doesn’t make sense to me at all given how much less bass and treble the IE200 graphs. Maybe it’s just that they have very different listening habits and tastes than me, but for the most part I have very little use for Headfonia’s reviews.

MSRP of IE300 is 300 euros, Amazon offered them multiple times at 130-150 euros. Same thing will happen to IE200 only this time price will be reduced from msrp 149 euros to something like 80-100 euros respectively. It will happen most probably within 6-8months since launch, if not sooner. I already own IE300 so I can wait and like I said at reduced price IE200 can be a good offer just to get the extra cable and tips with "free" earphones as a bonus.

I admitt those initiall comparisons IE200 to IE600 can be a little confusing, but I guess that's a common theme hyping new products. IE200 should be compared to IE300 in the first place by most reviewers so I'm glad Headfonia did a great job instead of making ppl think IE200 is almost as good as IE600/IE900, and in some cases I've read as good as IE600... Those review sites and YT channel should be a little more realistic. But yeah if given a chance and with good discount my own ears will tell me definite and true version of the story. In the meantime I hope to see more reviews and user experiences regarding IE200 vs IE300.

And also Sennheiser why don't you release some statement regarding circulating rumors IE300 is being discountinued (why) and replaced by IE200?

I too found the headphonia review very illogical. The stuff that they say just doesn't make sense. There is a asian video where they have recorded the 3 iems which is very much inline with what the graphs show. By tuning ie200 is more similar to ie600 than ie300 so to me it makes sense that people are comparing them.
