ZMF x Vibro & ZMF Blackwood Discussion Thread.

Dynamic driver design has me a bit excited. Always preferred the tonalities and detail of dynamics. Zachs ZMF planar designs were the exception.

If history is anything to go by, price should be really good and not something ridiculous like all the planar stuff coming out lately.

Did you ever try to Blackwoods on the jot
I put my Vibro on my new Jot. My lord, what a difference the 4 pin balanced power on the Jot makes! I was expecting to hear some slight differences vs my old amp - differences mind you, maybe not improvements - but I was floored by how much the soundstage opened up, everything got tighter and cleaner and more impactful. Old kit was the balanced out from the UD-305.

Just a note to anyone on this thread that may have missed it.  We are selling African Padauk Vibro's and Blackwood's at a huge discount this month, the Vibro MK II is actually listed lower than we were able to do any of our MassDrop Vibro II models, so this is quite a discount.

Padauk is a great wood, very hard and very porous, it gives a firm bass with great soundstage.

How does the Blackwood fair against the Alpha Dog?

Is there a guide for tuning bass on Vibro MKii by plugging one or more of the three ports?

I just experimented with it when I got them. Plugging all the holes vs all of them not plugged at first to see which I liked more. I run it with no plugs. Dat bass! Omg

How does the Blackwood fair against the Alpha Dog?

Haven't heard the Alpha dog, but It is less warm and intimate than the Alpha Prime. The AP is very warm and "sweet" sounding, and the Blackwood is more spacious, clearer and more separated in comparison. It isn't bright, but the tonality is more evenhanded. It has more upper mids and low treble, as opposed to the fuller lower mids of the AP. I'm glad I have the Blackwood instead of the Prime. Wish I could answer on the Alpha Dog instead of the Prime, but I hope this helps some. Also the earpads are roomier and give more space on the Blackwood, though they are firmer than the very pillow-like Alpha pads.

I sold my Alpha Dog immediately after I got my ZMF X Vibro Mk. I.  The Alpha Dog was just kind of sterile and boring in comparison.

I finally caved...

Not that I'm complaining.

Gotta say, I really love the Blackwoods, regardless of actual wood type. :)
