ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship
Jun 28, 2016 at 7:02 AM Post #1,456 of 2,544
Advised one of my Instagram followers to get in on the b-stock Walnut deals so she did.

As for inexpensive amp pairings, I advised a Magni 2 as it is what I used with no complaints till I got my Liquid Carbon.

Should be a great complement to her upcoming TH-X00 for how well the Omni handles mids.

I ordered the b-stock cherry Omni cans last week. Really looking forward to hearing my first ever pair of ZMF headphones.

Currently my only closed headphones are the excellent Final Audio Sonorous III, but am also awaiting  the TH-X00 Purple-hearts which ship out in August, which I impulsively ordered back in May.

My Bakoon HDA 5210 mk3 headphone amp seems to handle with great aplomb anything I throw at it, and can't see it having any problems with the Omni.

Kinda late to the party, but has anyone compared these to paradox / paradox slants?

Hi guys,
Jonathan here..new to headfi..almost a year commited to headfi..

I have several open pair cans, which are the LCD X , T1, T90, He 500, He 400, K7xx
Closed cans are m50x and z7..

Just wanna ask for opinions..

I was undecisive for the LCD 2 fazor vs the he560 vs the zmf omni vs LCD 3..

Prefering dark mids with arributes of lush, addictive and sweet female vocal with great emphasize to the midbass..

Anyone can share some opinions here.?
Anyone have tested the ZMF omni and how good they are to compare to the others.??

Thank you so much,
Jonathan

@Hifi59 wrote this comparison a while back that included the LCD-2, LCD-3, and HE-560:

I did a ton of research before ordering my Omni, and the general impression I got is that people, on average, rank the Omni somewhere between the LCD-2/HE-560 and the LCD-3, but with the caveat that the Omni is a better value for the money than the LCD-3.

Hi Jonathan, imho LCD 3 tops your list but they are open ended and twice more expensive than the Omnis which come next. Over the years I gradually moved to closed end HPs, finding their sound to be more cohesive and accurate. The one area however they give ground to the top open cans is spaciousness, depth and width of the sound stage. Granted, top closed models such as the Omnis, Alpha Prime and XC narrow it very much, still a top open can will be more 'open' than a top closed one. I presently own Omni Walnut, Alpha Prime and LFF Enigma, and the latter stands above them all including LCD 3. To my ears the Primes are more resolving than the Omnis with a less prominent lows but a bit more detailed. Soundstage is about the same, though the Primes feel slightly more open on some recordings due to extra details in the highs. The Omnis are more fun to listen to in general, being ever so slightly darker overall which tend to make music more exciting, and they look much, much better than the Primes (which is important too). The Enigmas on the other hand combine the details of the Primes, with the slight darkness of the Omnis - detailed yet prominent lows - and the openness of LCD 3, yes it's true. From your list though I'd go for the Omnis unless openness is a top priority/must and you can splash on LCD 3.

Hi markus,
Jonathan here, the reason i was undecisive for the omni because 1 classified thread offer LCD 2 fazor ( used ) for 750 usd..which is a good deal for me.. but seeing ZMF been doing some offer now is more tempting to get 1 for me..

i am afraid that i may not suit to the sound signature of ZMF which i have experienced before with the sony Z7..

Therefore, i am confused either to get the ZMF as currently offer sales is ongoing.. afraid i will miss it.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Thx a lot bro for sharing regarding your experiences.
Reading from your comment had cleared up some part of confusion and indecisiveness of me.

I may get the omni for now instead the Audeze unless the offer is much better.
I have a bad experience with the z7 which i have developed love and hate relationship on it over several months usage.

I am still more inclined to open cans because of the spaciousness and the wide soundstage with better instrument separation such as the HE 1000..

Thanks for that,
Jonathan

Does @zach915m have any dealers in Malaysia.  An audition is always the best solution...

@Samut89 - if you are near E1 Earphones they have the Vibro, Blackwood and Omni in for audition and will become a ZMF dealer soon.  If you're close definitely stop by and give them a listen!  You will have to buy the ZMF Walnut A/B sale sets directly through ZMFheadphones.com though.

I would generally recommend stock tuning, as the Omni is a a touch south of neutral with slightly elevated bass and mids. I would personally recommend Cherry as it has the widest soundstage and most romantic mids of any wood IMHO.  Those are available in b stock and the cups are already finished and ready to assemble.

Nice to speak with you too!
