Sorry, I made a mistake earlier.  The 780 plays AAC and ALAC files, but not AIFF files.  I corrected my earlier post.  It does play DSD 64 and DSD 128 files and 24/196 FLAC files.

No problem. I have AAC, MP3, and as of today, FLAC files. I'm going to re-rip my CD's to FLAC. I don't know if it's a placebo effect, but they seem to sound better than my .m4a and .mp3 files.

definitely not placebo. Lossy encodes lose quite a bit of high frequency detail so flac is bound to sound better. (Also further bass extension below 20hz on lossless)

dense dark sound, I like this for the bright earbuds, but FW sucks, unfortunately

I agree about the FW.  The small UI is acceptable for me but they could have at least added playback by categories or by whole folder (including subfolders).  Sound is a bit dark for my tastes too but good for brighter sig IEMs/HPs.  Adding my VorzampDuo with treble switch on seemed to uplift the veil a bit.

Good size for a transport.  Do these things implement FW updates?

in fact how does the SQ compare ? I really like the look of this thing but not sure with all this talk of it being very 'dark' sounding.

Hmm, after 21 hours of burn, I have noticed an improvement trebles..

I only wished the bass bump didn't look that awful. Seems that's 50k db worth of boost on the low end. Even Dr Dre is not impressed...
