That sounds terrible! Sounds like you're describing the headphone out of a $5 eBay player! Better not be that bad.
Please do an A/B when you have time.
A-B Of X2 and X3
Used a +200 hours listened Hifiman He-400s with its stock cable.
Songs Used:
Savant - Ninür https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhdX_Zj-aG4&index=7&list=PLdrf4u8llcV0XRtDVCpdkNfu2PeNAlJx0
Savant - Face Off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOTXPmXkh_M
The Fat Cats - The Ballad of Julio Gonzales https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcEIDMgPYDU
Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8gXzDLNWl8
Le Trio Joubran - Nawwar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVFJ8FpBTNQ
X2's clarity is better. It must be something with its upper mids level. X3 is clearly behind in that department. Listening Savant Ninür alone made this clear.
Basswise neither of two combatant are strong but while x3 posses a slightly deeper bass X2 is clearly a winner even with Nightwish. Vocals are one step closer to you in X2. In terms of soundstage width X3 has a slight advantage over X2. Lastly when it comes to natural instruments X3 wins the medal
x2: king of PRAT!, sharp, better at metallic blown instruments. Obviously better at multiplying fun factor of especially electronic music, rnb, hiphop etc. And stage is closer while listening it. + an EQ
x3: king of features! and natural instruments. it can play dsd/64, 24 bit, .cue files, it has DAC filter, gain selection, line out, 2 microsd slots. - an EQ
Conclusion
I can't say I hated X3. It's their first attempt at entering Hi-Fi realm. Anyway both are much better than a Clip regarding SQ. But hoped (naturally) it to be much better than X2. If only I had burned X3 like 100 hours to let its SQ settle.
I wish H20 will accomplish this and do the comparison on more fair grounds.
