Do any of you use your WA22 as a preamplifier?

I have a new solid state amp on the way and I'm told it does well when you use a tube amp as a preamplifier. When you set the WA22 to the PRE setting on the dial, is the output from WA22 set to a certain level/gain (dB) and voltage, with the volume on the front being inactive?

I use mine as a preamp, probably more than for headphones. The volume knob works the same in pre mode as it does for ‘phones.

OK, thanks. Curious how one knows the correct level on the WA22 so you don't overload your second amp?

I believe Woo recommends setting your volume at 12'oclock if you are using your WA22 as a pre. Then use the volume on your other amp as needed (assuming it has one). If you need "more" power, push the WA22 volume up from there.

Question to 1266 users with WA22. Do you use LO or HI impedance? I notice LO give more relaxed and laid back sound, with depth to soundstage. HI is more aggresive, "in face" sound, forward.

*Edit - it’s past my bedtime. You said the 1266. I don’t know their impedance, but if I had them, I’d probably look it up and run that, but the original post below makes no sense. Still I will leave it for posterity.

Depends on the headphones. If you have low impedance headphones, using the high setting will cause a massive bass boost. If you have high impedance headphones and use the low setting I can’t remember the exact issue you get, but it is sub-optimal. I would generally say to try to match them to your headphones - it’s going to vary a lot from set to set.

They shouldn't make significant difference in sound, but I support the Canadian one. Every product made in Canada that I bought so far never gave an issue.
Thank you !
What is the difference between "HANGING FILAMENT, FOIL GETTER" and "SOLID GETTER"?
What's better ?

IMO at this level it isn’t about “better” it is about which one you like, and then the specific tube you receive. If I were to pick I’d take the hanging filament, but that doesn’t make it best for you. YMMV and all that.
