How many people here are using a Woo amp to power their Grados? I've been curious about the Woo line for months now. They're dead sexy, and I understand Jack has an outstanding reputation for being a nice guy and for building seriously good quality amps.

I'm quite happy with my hybrid, but one day, I may bite the bullet and get a Woo. There's many to choose from: is the Woo3 or Woo3+ enough? They seemed to be geared at lower impedance cans. I know how highly regarded the Woo6 is, but is it worth the extra cost?

(I should ask Jack if he could make a Woo6 in another colour rather than black or silver)

Thanks all!

WA3+ is an OTL design which I will NOT recomend for low imp phones, look for transformer coupled ones, like WA6 or WA6 SE, pick WA6 plus PDPS upgrade and latter buy the Sophia and 6FD7 and you will have a hell of an amp

For my WA6 SE and Grado GS1000 I prefer EML 741 over Sophia Princess !

Re: WA6SE

Is the external power supply really necessary with Grados?

Would the standard WA6 not be enough?

Thanks guys!

I have a WA2, and my housemate has a WA6SE. Both of these amps sounds fairly good with the W5000 and RS1.

Not the best combo I guess

Heh, well, in the realm of the audiophile world, isn't there always something 'better'?

On a more serious note, those combos sounds fine, though I'd prefer to match my W5000 with a Zana Deux.

I have the HF-2s, which I'm madly in love with. I can safely say I'm almost at 'audio nirvana'. I'm awaiting a Pico DAC.

My Millet Hybrid tends to hum, which is a little annoying. From what I've read, Woo amps are dead silent, even with IEMs.

I have a maxxed WA2 and my Grados, Ultrasones and Denon sound delicious with it. I originally purchased it to go with my Senns and Beyers until one day I plugged in the Denons and now I mainly use it with my low impedance cans. Drives them all beautifully and it is dead quiet. Add to it that it has four inputs and a pre-out. A very solid purchase for me that I have been extremely happy with.

Sounds like people are crazy about the WA6SE, but a stock WA6 will also perform well with Grados.

Can someone explain the benefit of the SE? Also, the power supply can be upgraded on the WA6 for a measly $60. That sounds a lot better than shelling over a grand for the SE!

The SE has a separated and much beefier power supply unit. PSU is the most important part in a tube amp.

Power output:
WA6 : 380mW at 32 Ohms, 200mW at 100 Ohms, 180mW at 300 Ohms
WA6SE : 1200 mw at 32 ohms, 1100 mw at 100ohms, and 900 mw at 300 ohms
