Hi. Long time reader, first time joiner.

I have a pair of K171's that i had refurbished but need to replace the pads and want the velour ones. The only current model close is the K172.

Are the K171 and K172 the same physical construction? AKG sells replacement pads for the K172 and i believe they are the same. Any headphone experts know? thanks!

Sorry, but that doesn't make sense. Are you sure you didn't make a typing mistake?

Obviously, velours pads for the K271 will fit the K271

If you meant the K270, the K271 pads will fit as well.

The K171 requires different pads than the K271. On the parts list for the K171 Studio the velours pads are crossed out - perhaps out of stock. However, the K171 MkII comes with velours pads, and I guess those should fit. Part # is 2955Z25010.

Hope that helps you. Good luck with your K171!

I made a mistake and corrected it earlier (original subject said "K172 pads on K171 phones"). The post above is now correct: I have K171 headphones (mk I) and want velour pads. K271 is the closest model that has pads in the AKG store.

You answered my question thanks. I appreciate you posting the part number for the K171 pads as well. The originals never came with them but this will help me find some that fit. Thanks so much!

Sorry. I'm really confusing myself now. Originally i said 172, then couldn't find them in the store, so thought it was 271, then just found the 172 again.

I meant the K172 has earpads in the AKG store and will those fit the K171. The part number andi85 listed is for the K172, so those should work fine.

The K 171 MKII uses the same Velour ear pad as the K 172.
There is a place in the U.K. that sells Velour ear pads for the K 171 use the same AKG # 2955Z25010 as the K 171MKII & K 172.

I did but got an out of office reply. I thought someone here would know so thought it would be good to ask. Seems like there are some people that know about headphones here.

Cool. Thanks. I went ahead and ordered some. Thanks again for the confirmation PurpleAngle and Andi85.

For anyone else who is looking to replace the pads on their 171's or 172's, the product number listed above is indeed the correct pad for the headphones but be aware that the product and price are for a single ear pad! It says "Cushions" (plural) on the site so i was a little dismayed when the box only had 1. Harman sent another one as a courtesy because i complained about the confusing description, but $70 after shipping seems a little steep for some velour and foam. Just wanted to give a head-fi heads-up to anyone else looking to purchase.

$70 after shipping is crazy. Where are you living? I'm not sure about the US, but within Europe there should be a way to get them cheaper next time.

I'm in the US. I bought them off of the Harman web store. There were no other vendors that i could find who had them ... not even eBay. Next time i need some i'm just going to get a pair of 702's, because then i get the pads, and free bonus headphones.

I have a pair of AKG K171 Studio for recording and mixing and since they're on-ears they really hurt behind my ears after only 10-20 minutes of use since I use eyeglasses. I wonder if I can replace the earpads for over ear pads and if that would mitigate the issue. Has anyone ever tried that?
