So, there is currently a thread extant for best entry-level tube amp for the HD 600 wherein Kramer asserts that SS amps are a better deal for the 580/600 than tubes. Consider my fancy tickled. I'm getting a pair of HD 580s in the near future, and I'd love to mate them with the right amp in the $200 range. Any suggestions from personal experience?

I have an M3, built by MisterX for my hd580s, that goes very well with them and my hd650s. However, I haven't heard other DIY amps besides my Pimeta

I'd think an amp with a rather forward treble and midrange would do HD580's more justice than an M^3. From my, albeit, short audition of the HD600, I'd say if you could find a PPA in your price range that should do the trick. You could also think about having a PPAS built for you. Then you could have an external power supply, as well as an internal battery pack so the amp would not only be a home, but portable solution.

A HeadRoom Total Airhead, with optional wall-wart power supply -- a bargain for the price.
$99 + $15 = good SQ and plenty power for HD580 cans

^ Didn't think about that one. I've heard good things about this one as well. Could be worth a shot, and Ping Gong of AAA Audio is a great character to deal with.
