The obvious answer (I think) is Sennheiser. But specifically the 325i (likely my next can) - from what I have read, and a (very brief) listen, the 325is seem to be the Grado-iest Grados. What would be their opposite, their Spock-with-a-beard, their Bizarro World equivalent?

Would it be the 600s?, the 650s? Something closed? Please discuss.

I only owned the SR60's but I think my K701's are quite the polar opposites, sound signature wise. So up front, fun and fast, compared to the very neutral and distant AKG's

The 880's are pretty similar to the HD600's, certainly not polar opposites.

The opposite of Grados is simply turning off the music

I'd say the AKG K-501. They are neutral, sober, tailored for acoustic music, wide soundstage, and difficult to drive. Grados are colored, fun, rock hard, tight soundstage, and do just fine straight out of an iPod.

I fully agree (but I could only compare with the grado sr225).

Or one could say the old sennheiser HD540 which were very soft sounding and somehow a caricature of a "warm sound". But of course the prices aren't the same too

Senns with proper upstream components get quite involving and groovy, so they are not the veiled anti-grado in all cases.
The K701, on the other hand, is neutral, uninvolving and boring, no matter what.

K701 = Anti-Grado.

x2 for the K701, and I think that's why I loathe them and appreciate the SR325i's so high.

Beyers are mostly not that far from the Grados.

i would say the triports, cause well grados sound good, triports... grados look old school triports look new age, grados leak sound everywhere, triports don't etc...

bose are featured on the apple store, grado are featured on audiophile sites...
