I'm not sure - to hones though I think that no matter what having a usb amp/dac is going to be the best out of ANY laptop. I have a 2010 i7 MBP and I think the audio quality seems great, but I'm going to pick up a usb adapter of some type (toslink.. or something like that) and see if it really is..
Wouldn't see why not lol. Presuming that your computer's amp system is worse than the e7 then it's sound vs. better sound. It would depend on how able your desktop speakers are though. If they're not very good then I doubt you'd see much difference - but on a full 5.1 (or 7.2 lol) home theatre with amp etc etc then it'd be noticeable for sure. It's like headphones - no matter how much you try music is going to sound roughly the same on ipod buds with or without an amp.. on Beyers, ATHs, etc that won't be the case.
It all comes down to your sound being dependent on your weakest link.
