I hear this word mentioned alot here concerning both DIY amps and the HeadRoom Maxed out. Judging by it's name it should be the best of all amps, correct?

Now to the point, what defines a 'Maxed out' amp? a good volume pot (stepped attenuator), high quality resistors/capacitors? high quality headphone / RCA / XLR jacks?

Please explain.

to my mind it means taking an implementation of a circuit to its logical limit parts wise.

for example, for an old META42, maxed out would be 4xEL2002 on each output, the ALPS Blue pot, nice resistors and ELNA Cerafine rail caps or something similar with high quality RCA sockets.

It's not a definite term, but its when you are far into dimishing returns territory without a gun!

All you can definitely say is that a "maxed out" DIY amp has more than the standard features. Different people have different ideas on what level of features you have to have before you can call it "maxed out". It's kind of a meaningless term, really.

As for the Headroom Max, that's just the name of the product.
