What Are You Listening To Right Now?

Seems like I am liking a lot more pop now days.

Some people use the word 'Pop' in a derogatory fashion, but a good pop song is just as hard to get right as a terribly serious rock epic. It's like actors who mistakenly think comedy is harder than 'dark' and meaningful drama.

I've been listening to something that combines the two - the Rutles' self-titled album.

I'm beginning to think that this album is better than "Rumours" The HD stereo version is amazing - such an improvement over the standard flac.

Son Lux - Lanterns
http://music.sonluxmusic.com/album/lanterns

Buying some music on Bandcamp and streaming this one to determine if I want to buy it, because some people have been saying it's one of the best albums from 2013. So far quite disliking it. It has this quite clear feel of being put together in a DAW, which I quite dislike. I can visualize the stems rolling by my eyes quite vividly. Also at least on my reasonably smallish Genelec 6010As active speakers the album does not sound very dynamic. I'm not talking about it being dynamically compressed, just lacking dynamics in general which can happen quite easily in DTM if you don't work on making the mix dynamic. Looking at the average on Rate Your Music and some of the professional reviews like Pitchfork's 6.6/10, it seems there are many out there who like me aren't that enthusiastic about this album. I think I'll give it a pass unless the next song or two don't suddenly make me change my mind and take my money somewhere else. Most likely here.
