My oldes still working can is the Beyerdynamic DT990 (600 ohm version), slightly modded and with new earpads. My choice of headphones.
Another head-fier who has heard thise DT990 and the 2005 DT880 has said: "Beyer 990 (600 ohm) = not too bad... I like them better than the 880's, a bit of glare through the mids, a bit rolled of on the top, just a hair congested, were power hungry, for some reason kick drums sound very realistic and satisfying through the 990's"
Free 'phones that came with a cassette player in 91 kind of time frame are still kicking around my room somewhere. I haven't used them since, well, 91 though.
I have a set of Fostex T20RP's from like over 20 years ago. Theyre different than the ones they sell now,as far as looks and build. I actually like the look better. Theyre still in good condition and i still use them for home listening. They sound great actually. The recording industry used them for many years. :SR80 Smile with 414 pads modded:
