VSonic GR07 Bass Edition Impressions
Aug 26, 2014 at 7:33 AM Post #2,312 of 2,697
I've had all of those. By far, the GR07BE in most ways, the RE400s second best and a little better for acoustic/vocal genre than the GR07BE, the SE215 a distant last

Not by pricing....but it comes like GR07>400>215......SE215 is miles away, especially with gr07s....

I'm asking this question because I'm listener classical, symphonies and acoustical musics. In order of this info, could you please review it again?

Thanks for sharing detailed imressions and opinions.

Just be aware the Hifiman IEMs are much less sturdy. I've had 6 die on me and only 1 Vsonic die on me

@ardacumhur :

Aye, agreed on what @spurxiii said

If you listen mainly on classical - symphonies - acoustical, I'd go for Re 400

GR07BE just arrived, so I'd refrain from commenting on music genres, I'd just say all the hype about this iem is justified.
I've just listened to this for less than 30 minutes, mind you, so new toy syndrome might play a big part here

SE215 is good for pop music or similar music where you dont really care that the highs are smooth / rolled off, and you'd just enjoy the warm smooth (and probably the bass beats ?) of the music.

Can't compare it to the RE-400, but if you like that type of music, you'll want the Classic rather than the BE. Handles clarity a bit better and will be better for "cleaner" sounding genres like acoustic and classical.

Also, X-post from the GR07 thread:

So I got my GR07 Classic and it sounds pretty similar out of the box to GR07BE. Guess that was just brain-in after all?

At any rate, the Classic is definitely less bassy (shock) and the bass register sounds cleaner. BE has louder bass, but not necessarily deeper. Mids are more forward and neutral than the BE. Treble honestly sounds about the same. There's a bit of sibilance and offensive snare drum here and there, but not much worse than the BE. Maybe these are more in line with the MKII? I dunno, just describing it as I hear it. If I had to personify these, they're like brother (BE) and sister (CE), where one is a bit more powerful and the other a bit more elegant, but clearly cut from the same cloth.

I really love the way things like Progressive Rock/Metal, Classic Rock, Vocal Pop, Jazz, and Classical sound on the Classics compared to the BE. That said, Bassier EDM or Pop, Hip hop, and newer Metal might be better suited to the BE. I'm sure all of this sounds like common sense, but it's always good to test your assumptions. At first the Classic felt a little soulless and cold, but listening for a half hour or so changed that right up.

Both are great phones, both have the same general sound signature and feel to them. CE is cleaner in the bass and mids and BE is fuller and warmer. If you're on the fence about which is right for you, just look at your music preferences, and don't think about it more than that. If you value clarity and an unmuddled sound, go for the CE. If you want to feel that bass impact and willing sacrifice a bit of clarity (still plenty of detail, just a hair tad muddier), BE is your guy.

Well, measurements don't lie :p. There are available graphs for both of these on innerfidelity. The regular version is impressively flat up to the lower treble area where things start getting uneven. The BE is just a GR07 with a midbass hump and some added distortion. This probably produces a warmer, more v shaped sound but the difference should be relatively minor.

Does anyone have the stock tips (the ones that come on the headphone from the factory) for sale?  I lost one of mine, and it's by far my favorite tip for the GR07BE....nothing else feels the same.  I've had mine for over a year and just randomly popped off and I have no idea where it is.

I can try the MH1 tips, but I can't find those locally either.  Ugh.  The regular Sony Hybrids just don't do it for me.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out.  :)

I don't have any spares, sorry, but I know how you feel because they're my favorites too. The hybrids are ok, but don't have the same clarity. I've heard people say the MH1 tips are great with them though, and you can get those from the MH750 which can be ordered from amazon for <$10. Might be a little steep just for tips, but that's the only place I know to get them. You can also look in the classifieds. I just got a pair of MH1 tips there but they were the last ones I saw available.

How about universal M6 tips? Are the gr07 tips same as those come with vsd1/s/3/s? And so the bbonline's?...

Haven't tried the M6 but Kova swears by them. Could be a good option too. And yeah, all the stock VSonic tips on GR07, VSD1, VSD3 is the same.

yeah I tried my M6's w/vsd1LE and 3S but stock tip of 3S is better to me....the picture of those tips resembled same tips as my 2 vsonic models,so Ive asked...and yeah since the nozzles are same, M6 tips fits well w/gr07s......
