Vintage Receivers

I'd also check your local craigslist periodically to look for deals. A lot of quality vintage gear can be found if you have patience and are willing to travel the distance.

For example, a Tandberg TR-2040 receiver. I don't know any specifics about it, but I know Tandberg was generally regarded as an excellent brand.

The same guy (I think) is selling a pair of Klipsch Hereseys for $200. I consider that a steal.

A budget integrated amp might be the best bet for a 200$ budget, since it will be in excellent condition (no fixing needed), and most likely be the most user friendly (good speaker binding posts, etc).
I was in my local Radio Shack the other day, and they had a yamaha receiver for 170$, and a sony for 130$. Nothing special about them, but for the price it's a great new receiver. They even have some el'cheapo ones for 80-100$.

Still, you can find some nice vintage receiver for cheap locally. Recently I just picked up a Pioneer SX-450 for 10$, and a Pioneer SX-300 for 5$ ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/towert7/1013094719/ ). Can't beat it!
