Vintage OG and Present Day TOTL Impressions

I haven't gone back to the Dave just yet the past week or so, as I've been purposely getting to know the Pacific. I want to clarify the above. The Pacific provides a bigger sound, stage, and window into the music (and as a result clarity). I'm hearing very minute details as I mentioned above more clearly. But tone (color wise) the Pacific has a hint of warmth over the Dave, which is definitely welcome, but is less transparent color wise than the Dave is.

Again, I've talked over and over about how that would be a benefit for me over the Dave, as long as resolution is maintained, but before even getting back to any A/B comparisons I can say the Dave is more transparent in that respect.
Fundamentally, I'm not sure you could ever expect a tube DAC to have the same transparency.

Yup, added distortion to begin with. I just wanted to make sure I clarified that in that instance, I simply used "transparency" as most think of it wrong. It was bothering me all week lol

But everything else in that section, similar to the above post today is exactly what I meant. :)

Hi guys,

Since a couple of you are already engaged there it occured to me this may be of interest to some other of you so figured I'll just quickly share this.

After seeing the Watercooler thread creating an amazingly vibrant and friendly communtiy for portable audio (and having been part of it myself), I had few members asking me to set a parallel Watercooler thread for the headphone community (full size headphones, amps, dacs, realted gears and general banter for headphone community).

After several weeks getting feedbacks and consdiering the undertaking, I decided to plunge in..

The Watercooler Headphone Edition thread is now launched:

https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the...of-gear-impressions-music-and-musings.972819/

Since launching Saturday we've got nearly 30 pages of posts. It's highly engaged with lots of great communtiy members and eclectic content from gear to music to audio topics. Everyone is warmly welcome to drop in anytime, share anything related to headphone, music, or just banter and hang around!

I've already engaged a few times, seems like a really cool thread and I'll be sharing a lot more going forward! Insane how rapidly it's progressed already.

Separate from the above. The past two weeks or so have been super hectic. Dealing with a few family health issues I've had to travel for and this week traveling for work. Should be able to settle back in next week and after (no real travel planned for a month after). I did get a good amount of listening in over the past few weeks until this travel week despite all of the life things, but just haven't been able to update much impressions wise.

Awesome :)

Yea it’s kind of shocking. This isn’t my thread just one in started for the community figuring it may need one - I guess they are voting by their posts. Super exciting to see there was a need. Hopefully we’ll be able to bring all headphone enthusiasts together here like we have in the parallel thread for porable audio. More sharing, more joy 😊🙏

This thread is an absolute goldmine for someone like myself looking to step up to something like AIC-10. Thanks a lot for all the impressions in here, @number1sixerfan :)

Really appreciate the kind words! And that's exactly what I started this to be, a resource for everyone to openly and honestly compare all of the TOTLs, while openly discussing the pros and cons. The coolest part has been the journey and trying so much new and different gear. I'm pretty sure I'll own the AIC one day soon (hopefully), and if you take the leap yourself, please report back and share! :)

I think you will :)

Meant to follow up here. If you keep egging me on I'm sure I will lol

Anyways, I think I have a chance to align work travel with the July London CanJam. Going to try and make it happen and would be really cool. If anyone else is going, please let me know!

Also, this weekend I'll provide some really interesting updates hobby and impressions wise. I just got back yesterday and it feels good to be home with ample time to listen to gear!

I'm going to be near London July 11-14 for Goodwood Festival of Speed. There's a chance I may stick around long enough for the CanJam on the 20th.
Hope things are improving with your family.
