In the Android and USB DAC thread, I brought up the possibility of a USB-to-SPDIF cable. The purpose of the cable is pretty simple - several nice Android phones have MHL support through their USB ports. MHL supports SPDIF output, aka, bit perfect digital output. Run that to an external DAC, and we've solved the whole 'Android phones not doing USB audio' thing. Another member linked this:

Which appears to do exactly that. USB to plug, SPDIF to DAC. To infinity and beyond. Not sure if the USB-to-adapter would have to be an OTG cable though.

My question, then, as I posed it from the other thread: is it possible to create a single short (portable) mini USB to SPDIF cable? Basically taking that Matrix USB to SPDIF adapter and integrating it into the cable? From a layman's perspective I don't see why this would be impossible, but I'm no electrician.

You would want to open 'er up, desolder the jacks, replace with cables.
