Hi,
Can folks recommend an upgrade over the Hifiman RE-400? I really love its sweet midrange and smooth treble but would like something with a little less bass and wider soundstage.
Thanks

Does your version of the HE 400 sound like this:

The earlier (and less numerous) version was close to being a basshead lite can.

Actually, I'm asking about the IEM, RE-400, not the full-size headphone, HE-400. :)

Less bass? The RE-400 is already a bit bass light so it may be a little hard to find something that is lighter than that. Maybe the Astrotec AX7?

Price range?

I would avoid the W4, they seriously underperform for the price IMO.

The Fidue is good, but might be too bassy.

I think my choices are these:
Fidue A83
Ultimate Ears UE900s (the updated version)
Westone W4R
Can anybody give insights?

Did you ever decide? I'm interested in a similiar sound to the RE-400 as well. I really love the overall sound and the way the highs never overwhelm or stand out. The fit and comfort are great too. Maybe the RE-600?

They all have more bass. The IEM that comes to mind is ER4S with orange Knowles dampers. Best luck!

Hey Guys,
i know old tread but i recently have tested the RE-400 and it suits me very well but i don't like it's cheap build-quality.
I'm currently looking at the Etymotic hf5 because i want to spend around 200€, what can you recommend me?
