My long serving P1 has finally got to the point that the battery life has become unacceptable. I want a replacement with equivalent single ended sonic performance, probably an android based solution. Suggestions? How much am I going to have to spend?

One element is missing: what is your budget?
i owned the plenue 1 a few years ago and loved it. It is partly because of him that I started investing in expensive equipment 😋 I had upgraded from plenue 1 to shanling m8 and it was a significant improvement. Now I have the dx320 and I'm in heaven 🥳

I've never owned any ak products so I can't say too much more. But they are releasing a new model, the sr35, which may be interesting. You also have the dx300 or cayin n6ii that you can find at a good price on occasion and which are still very good. they have amplification modules that allow you to modulate the sound, this is an element that can be interesting too.
The m6 ultra can also be a good choice.

A touch late. Like you long time P1 owner - now relegated to source duty where it can stay connected. I found the Ak SA700 had a similar organic sound to the P1, as did the HifiMan R2R2000 (burr-brown chips!). These days i tend to mainly use the Hiby RS6. These to my ears have a similar voicing to the P1.
Hope you enjoy the M7!
