I have both the Apple IEM with Sony hybrid tips (which I've used for a few years) and also a pair of Shure E2Cs (which I retired because they were the most uncomfortable things I've ever put in my ears) and am looking to upgrade.

I'm thinking about Westone 4, or Shure 535 but was wondering if anyone could give any impartial advice as to whether either are comfortable to wear for extended periods and what type of sound signature to expect from either?

Never tried either of those. Maybe check out this thread:

The Shure SE535 are mid centric IEMs with good bass response(highs are clear but not extended as Etymotic IEMs) and Westone 4 are very balanced, neutral and clean sounding. Sony EX1000(highely recommended) are very balanced IEMs too and fun to listen with great bass response(dome type dynamic driver are amazing).
